Meh... You could take an older YJ and build a stronger & better rig than any Rubicon off the lot for less money.

yeah but then he would be another jeep person...cant have that :p

I have wheeled with my buddy in his 06 rubicon...and have pictures of him stuck in the same hole I made it through 5 mins later in a STOCK samurai except for spring over axle and 33's... stock gears,no lockers, stock springs, stock shocks (I flipped thefactory u-bolt plates from side to side to keep the shock mounts LOL)

he was locked in 4lo with both axles locked and sunk right in 15 feet into 30 foot pit... hills or rocks he killed me... but mud I walked through gave him reason to use lockers

People can try and compare the capabilities of different vehicles all day long and it still doesn't mean one is better than the other. Who cares? I surely don't. I like seeing all type of vehicles on the trails. I like seeing people put themselves and their vehicles to the test and conquering their own limitations.

There are way too many variables involved to be fair in saying that one vehicle is better than the other.

There are hill climbs that I've done easily one week but couldn't conquer them the next week..... and I haven't changed anything on my rig. What does that say about capabilities?

means your driving sucks lol....jk no I know what your saying...but at the same time I LOVE my crew cab 1 ton...would I suggest it for trail rig? heck no but a mud truck yes.... depends alot on what he wants to do... my buddy with the jeep and I have a great time fourwheeling together and both trucks are close enough in size and capabilities that if one gets stuck the other can pull them out... the jeep guy comment was actually just saying how the stereo typed jeepers are great to each other but pricks to anyone else (I have known quite a few of this type) I wasn't implying that jeeps arent a good platform because they are there are tons of aftermarket for them, they are usually easy to find cheap, and most are simple to work on..

I'd like a cherokee with the solid front axle. But they're unibody and can twist a lot

Oh yeah...and there are toyota pricks too. I get soooo sick & tired of seeing the Jeep VS Toyota crap on both Jeep/Toyota forums.

Those posts get about as old as the 'what type oil do you use' type posts.

All I know is...my jeep is more capable than my toyota and I wanted it that way. :D

It has a 4-link system in the back, extra fuel tank it´s 35 gallons and a fulepump so you can fill the orgina tank while driving, it has a 4:88 and a front air lock, it has ranco 9000 shocs in the back and 3" light racing struts in the front, Artick trucks tires 38"x15,5" we had to change the brake system and use brake pumps from landcruser 80 and the brakedisk is built by artick trucks in Iceland ,we did this so we could use 15"x14" wheels for better flote on the snow when you let the air out, It has a lift kit about 2" only on the boddy and then the flairs and running bords,2x air pumps one for the tires and one fore the locker, KN filter, fluricent lights under the car and some lights in the front. inside is the GPS, VHF, CB, and NMT phone and I can´t remember anything else

i'm a chevy man by heart too though fellas. I would definately go with a 98 2-door tahoe. Of course I would but 38-40 inch swampers on it with a dana 60 in the front and back along with gear changes. That to me is the ultimate rig. But I LOVE my tacoma though, the harder I drive it the better it gets.

actually he's not...the jeep wedged itself like that...came to a stop and turned off...

i realize vehicles can still roll but the jeep would have to roll uphill and twist more before coming back down on him

he wasnt there while the jeep was moving

I originally said a Cherokee (not grand) but now i would say other such as a 2 door Suzuki Samurai or a 2 door Geo/Chevy Tracker, Have the style of a Jeep Wrangler, smaller wheelbase and an overall smaller vehicle, there are plenty of them and barley any are over 3,000, and if it dies on you, you will not have any problem just leaving it there with the key in it. (I want a Samurai, Japanese, higher standards)

if i had the money my trail rig would be an 83 toyota swb truck with the tacoma 4cyl engine swap and 33" maybe 35" tires. My buddy had a 82 and that truck went anywhere and everywhere we ever wanted to go. With the straight axle set up these trucks were indestructable.

I'd rather have an expo rig that something to go muddin with. So I would go with a first gen taco (oh hey look i already have the base for the build...:)) then get a RTT and other crap. Oh, I'd also haul around a Honda XR650R too.
