Just a question; I have a 2006 DCSB, with about 144K on it. I'm planning on going to Denver over the Thanksgiving holiday to visit family. Living in Southern Kentucky, it's about 1200 miles more or less there. I have new tires, new serpentine belt, and even new wipers on the truck, and I have regular maintenance done, so there are no issues with her.
How many would drive there, taking roughly 3-4 days as opposed to flying there for about $300 R/T and spending another $300 for a rental car while there?
    Just curious...

I drive my first gen from California to Tennessee and back all the time. Usually nonstop either maybe turning the truck off twice the entire ride there. If you like your truck and wanna drive it for that far, go for it.

Yeah, my last road trip of anywhere close to that distance was from Kentucky to California in my 2009 RAV4 Sport. Since I spent 35 years driving a semi, 1200 miles each way is Bupkis to me...just had it in Michigan in September.
I'm just curious to see how other members feel about longer road trips in a Tacoma.

I don't have a dog in this hunt. I have 1st gen Tacoma and a 2nd gen Tundra. The tundra wins by a far margin for long trips.

If the 2nd gen Tacoma is comfortable to you, then drive it.

Depends on how much free time you have. I prefer driving and now that I am retired I have made 3 trips of over 8K miles each (avg. 34 days) out west and back. I typically stay off interstates and use AAA maps as a general reference. If time is an issue There is a bonus to flying in that you have more time with family. I used to do that every year and rented a car each time. Gas is cheap right now but you have to figure in hotels and food for each day on the road. Long trips pay you back with great scenery and unexpected views of the country. And you have opportunities when driving across Kansas to stop, shut the engine off and get out to enjoy the silence of the plains....it is so quiet. Drive!

I would fly. I'm at the point where I'd rather spend the extra few hundred bucks and be a lot more comfortable than to drive there for that long of a trip.

Even though I love my truck, I also love my time. Flying is the only way.

It's likely a toss up in cost between flying and driving. 1,200 miles at 20mpg is going to set you back $200) and if you aren't sleeping in the truck or camping you have another 2-3 nights of lodging.

Unless you are wanting to drive for the road trip and to check stuff out I'd recommend flying.

Waiting to see if my brother in Denver will let me drive his Tundra while I'm there. If so, Flying will be a LOT cheaper, thanks to Kayak...

I'd probably fly, especially if you can get the Tundra. If you really wanted to drive, you wouldn't have asked. You get more time there if you fly too.

Well, I did some hunting on-line, and found a round trip from Nashville to Denver and back for under $175, and I get the use of the Tundra in Denver, so flying it is!
