I don't think you should've beat the crap out of him. But I would've told your son to trip him when he walked away. :D

Reminds me of the Dave Chappelle skit "when keeping it real goes wrong".

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVXqJ3A6NWw

Yes, you should have confronted him and beat the crap out of him. That way, your little child could experience a violent tramatic experience and then to top it off he could watch you get arrested and then make new friends with his new parent at Child Protective Services.

After you get out of jail 7 years later your teenage son, whom you wont recognize anymore will show you his gnarly new tattoos and let you in on his secret drug addiction and his babies momma.

    OR...

You could go confront the asshole and find out he is some nut job just itching to blow a big hole in someone like yourself. Your son could then have the pleasure of watching you get shot through the lungs and blowng out blood all over the pavement as you take your last breath and the shooter sits there laughing and video taping you to post on Youtube.

However, I would follow the advice given by a man named Jesus who said "turn the other cheek".

Meh. Gotta let this stuff roll off. This is 100% his problem, from the fact he doesn't have a phone to whatever happened that lead him to react that way. Confronting him makes it your problem.

If your child had heard it, you might have said, "That man is probably just having a bad day." Then drop it. Teaches your kid to get over people/incidents like that, too.

I hate even letting friends use my phone. Lots of personal information on my phone, and once had a "friend" get my phone and go through my old Facebook private messages and emails, then cause a bunch of drama.

On the other hand, some friends and I were quite literally up a creek without a paddle, boat fuel, or functional motor. Phones had stayed in the truck because we knew they'd just get wet and we ran into trouble miles from where we parked; basically got caught out in the middle of a very large lake during a nasty storm and the marina was closed so we couldn't buy gas. A very nice family took me to buy gas. And then when that problem was resolved the motor went to that great marina in the sky and the same people let us use their cell phone to call for a ride back to my truck. Without that family's help we would have had a very long, cold walk.

I should have sunk that damned boat.

x2 My boys can handle any words I drop, we just have a talk after the fact about what not to say in front of mommy :D

I had something similar to me happen at a park recently. A guy and his dad, maybe 25 and 50ish we're walking two big dogs in the park. I had my boys at the park to play and for for a walk. My youngest was 1 and in his stroller and my oldest was 3 and walking with me about maybe 10-15ft ahead of my on the path. These two dogs got off of their leash and came running at us, they stopped short and one of them let out a growl at my older son. I threw my oldest behind me and was just about to go into dog killing mode when the two guys came walking down the path. The dogs ran back to their owner and I reminded the guy that dogs need to stay on the leash at all time and that they were close to having one or two less dogs.

He decided to mouth off about how his dogs were harmless.

I'm thankful my sons were with me because they're the only reason I didn't end up in jail or badly beaten. In the end I used my superior wit and sarcasm and badly humiliated/embarrassed the guys.

When you're in a public place and with your kids you have to constantly think about what will happen to them if something was to happen to you. I couldn't risk something happening to me that day as I was a solo parent at the park with two toddlers. For a while I was angry about that, now looking back I'm happy about the outcome. My dad growing up was the toughest SOB I ever met ... but .. I only had to see him use it once. He worked construction for 35 years and was solid as a rock, and mean when he needed to be :D I want my kids to respect me for having restraint, but also know I could have kicked ass if needed.

    "Is it an emergency?"

    "Yes"

"Who can I call for you?"

This handles it if it's an emergency, and kills it if he's trying to steal your phone. An iPhone would be hundreds of dollars to replace. No stranger is getting mine.

    Yup.

Also, my post was complete 20/20 hindsight on my part. I probably wouldn't have been clever enough to think of saying that at the time. But now I'm ready! :D

it wasnt so much a matter of the guy not letting him borrow his phone or not. i think the big problem in this situation was how the guy acted in response. if it was truly an emergency then he would have been a tad bit more persistent or let him hold something of value in return until the phone was returned.

ive also had to borrow someones phone for a quick call and they respectfully said no and i simply asked if it would help if they held my car keys until i returned it. in which case he said sure.

its all about how people handle a situation as to how it will turn out. if you treat people with respect, then most likely youll get more respected in return and your life will greatly improve.

Do what I have done in the past. Tell them you are gonna pray for them and you hope they find the answer they need to find in life. That usually confuses the hell out of them. While you laugh it off and your son gets to see a smarter way of dealing with an ass hat
