This is Josh's BS Opinion, I built an M14 last winter and loved it, may do another one this winter. I have a remington/Bushmaster ACR that will fill my needs for a close in (Combat clearance) to mid range (3-500yds)platform. When the 6.8mm caliber kits come out, I'll get one of those to replace my mid to long range (5-800) platform. I've shot the scars (helped do testing on them when I was in NSW) and we found them to be lacking in a few areas, the FN engineers went back to the board and reworked some issues we brought up and they are a good platform. Personal preference would still be an ACR. what are you planning to do with it and what are your needs? The M14/1A is a proven system that is getting its 3rd or 4th wind with US and Nato forces overseas. On another note, FN is damn proud of their product, you can pick up a good M14 platform for about half the cost and dump the rest into a good optic (I've run an aimpoint and Nightforce on mine) and mods to give you better ergonomics.
    Cheers,
    Josh
