Probably a Nissan Frontier in terms of general truck comparison. Otherwise it would have to be a SAAB 9-5 Aero wagon.

As much as I despise the transition to EV; I saw a black Rivian R1S in person up close yesterday. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued by it. A Porsche Targa 4S, Cayenne Turbo GT, or any of the 911 GT variants would be sweet too. Black of course.

Replaced mine with a Tundra. Needed more towing capability, but also wanted the reliability of a Yota still so I got the big ol bitch instead.

    another 3rd gen tacoma.

my first rule with vehicles is that i need to be able to remove the radio and install my own. this is possible with the 3rd gen, but the dash appearance of the 4th gen, and most other vehicles outside of my brz, this isn't possible anymore. and i would never replace the brz with the tacoma, or the tacoma with the brz.

the tacoma is a great truck that's only slightly larger than the old rangers, but a terrible sports car. the brz is an excellent sports car, but a terrible truck. that's why i have both.

Uh, sooo hard..... Um, a pristine 1st gen Tundra, new Outback, or new Tacoma in a few years if it's the real deal.

This reminds me of the classic conversation if you could have a "hall pass" to step out on your significant other... The girl always goes with typical answers like Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, etc. Solid response is the barista at the coffee shop, the new girl at work, and the neighbor down the street. It either gets laughs or goes horribly wrong.

This, YES YES the reason for starting the thread. I'm a subaru person, and as ugly as the new models look in photos they are easy on the eyes in person, discounted currently about 10%, torque immediately on the boxer 4, and the driving experience from reviewers is hands down the best for a modern car. There have been a few comparisons and the GR corolla is faster in a straight line but everything else falls short besides the driving experience which is generally biased.
Love that movie, but unmarried and can't technically relate.

At my age, long term reliability is no longer a consideration. If something happened to my Toyota, I would probably look at Nissan trucks.

I haven't put many miles on my '17 Tacoma, about 33k in 6 years. A couple of months ago I towed a U-haul motorcycle trailer out to Colorado and back. I can say that 6 cylinder worked it's butt off at times to maintain 70 mph. Given that after I quit my regular 40 hr a week job and work on the road, possibly towing a camper, then I'd consider a 3/4 Ton Chevy.
Now I also have a '16 Jeep Rubicon JKU that is just another toy...been considering a 2024 Camaro SS with manual transmission..different toy.
My DD are cheaper Chevy cars that get close to 30 mpg and cheaper tires...20k miles a year almost just commute to work.

A little something every chance we get.
Mid-50's stepside resto-mod PU with most the work done, and AC! If a Ford, would have to be Ford throughout. Anything else, anything goes if it works! Then, it would spend it's life being my Pick Up Truck!

Keeping my 3rd gen. I've tried most other manufacturers pickup trucks. I found that domestics are generally unreliable after 100k. Wow! It's got way more power or can tow 40 000 lbs! Honestly I don't care. If it can't make it past 100k not going to be parked in my driveway. I've had enough of the junky domestics and all their excuses. With the price of trucks, I want something that at least has a chance of making it to 300k+ without a total rebuild of the engine or transmission. Not gonna happen with a domestic truck. Yes some trucks have made it that far, but 1 in a million isn't good enough odds for me.

I killed 2 Frontiers (2000 and 2006) while all the pre and first gen Tacomas on our street (5 total) are still going strong. The 2006 nearly died on the way to look at a 2013 Tacoma. You can guess what I drove home.

I’d get another Tacoma maybe a nice 2nd Gen if I could find one at a decent price and in good condition. Will start looking for one in about 6 months when my oldest son gets mine :D.

Look at likely places every day. There is a local small family owned car lot I’ve done business with before. They got a 2013 4x4 in with 100K on the clock, one owner, many maintenance records. I drove in and snapped it up (they said it had been on the website less than 12 hours). The price was in line, although having been a gun collector for decades, sometimes the “deal” is being able to get it at all.

Yeah, hoping I can find one at a small family owned dealer or from someone selling there’s.
