Old buddy had 1st and 2nd. I think they were nice solid trucks. Looks like 3G is following the trend.

Agreed. 2020+ grilles are fine stock. My fave is 2020-23 SR grille.

I dunno why they had that stupid looking chrome bezel that made already huge front end look even bigger. That was my first “mod”.

I don't understand the fascination with Hiluxes... I've driven one for work and it made me realize that the Tacoma is the better vehicle of the two.

Grass is always greener mentality. People look at their payload numbers and powertrain options and automatically think Toyota should sell them here, even though the Tacoma is much better suited to NA. I have driven them a few times abroad, it’s not a vehicle I would want to own in the states.

Toyotas have traditionally been imported into the US, that's why people bought them. I'd say the grass being greener is why people bought Toyotas to begin with.

Because there was no alternative at the time for that class of. vehicle, especially from domestic producers. We already have a truck tailored to our market and a full selection of full size and HD options.

Exactly that's why nobody want's a JDM import. Which makes up most of the posts when people ask what do you want from Toyota. The answer is usualy a Toyota from Japan, that's where all the excitement is arond the LC 250 and GX 550. There's probably plenty of people who would like to take delivery of their Japanese built Toyota in Japan.

Those people are the ones bitching that the LC250 “is not a real land cruiser”. I think a lot of the people lusting after 70 series and hilux’s have never driven them. They make the taco feel luxurious and refined in comparison. They’re commercial vehicles. They are awesome in the outback, supremely durable, but everywhere else they suck. Loud, unrefined, slow, stiff unforgiving suspension designed for high payload. Don’t meet the same safety standards as U.S trucks, wouldn’t pass emissions standards etc.

Instead we get trucks that are safer, handle better, handle interstate driving better. We get trucks that are more comfortable, have more amenities and are still capable off-road but are nicer to drive for extended periods of time. While still being relatively durable mind you. Can’t complain when tacos have regularly been going 300,000 + miles for the last 20 years. I understand the desire for basic and durable, but if I have to live with it everyday I’d rather have a truck made for consumers. Hilux’s and 70 series are made for NGO’s, mining companies, and governments looking for a truck that can handle a severe duty cycle in the most inhospitable environments, with little regard to the comfort of the drivers.
