Anything is possible with enough cutting and welding!:sawzall::welder: Why a 4Runner? Rear disc brakes?

Starting in 1989, 4Runners all have linked rear ends using coil springs (instead of leaf springs used in Toyota pickups and earlier 4Runners), so you'd have to cut and weld spring perches for leaf springs and shock mounts. 2003-current 4Runners use the same 3rd member (and I believe the same tack width) as 2nd Gen Tacomas but the 4Runner began using disc brakes on their rear axles starting then and you would have to figure out the e-brake, ABS and brake line plumbing in addition to the requisite cutting and welding.

If you're not in to that amount of research and work, your easiest bet would be to just find a complete Tacoma e-locker rear end (because the housings are different between e-locker and open diff models; you can't put an e-locker 3rd member in an open diff housing without modifying it) or just put in an aftermarket locker and call it good.
