Hello guys and gals of TW! Got a question and hopefully somebody can put my mind at ease.

Ever since my truck was new, after you drive it for about 30 min and then open oil filler cap, there is a bit of light color smoke inside the neck. It takes about 10 mins for smoke to come out naturally if you just leave the cap off, so quite a bit of smoke is there. You can see in the pic the smoke in the filler neck.

I had 2 trucks and 4 cars before my taco and none of them did that. Even my civic with 360k km. My buddy got 19 taco OR recently and his does not do that.

Of course i mentioned this to my dealer and showed the service advisor the smoke and he said they will take a look no worries. As a big shock to everyone, toyota said its normal. I told them if they think its normal i want it in writing.

Anyways, im a bit concerned about it. Doesnt the PCV valve should take care of that? Hopefully somebody can help me out with this one.
    Thanks guys!

I find a new hobby, nothing is wrong. The oil in these things is basically water.

I was checking my oil at a gas station a while ago and decided to open the filler cap and saw the smoke. Now ive been doing it once in a while just to see if its still happening.

Is your oil level and grade of oil being used correct?

You can see it coming out of the filler neck. How would you call it?

It is water vapor from condensation. It happens to every motor.

Wasn't the old trick to see if you have blow by (past the piston rings) was to put your palm against the oil fill to see if you had suction or pressure pushing against it while running?

Did your previous vehicles run synthetic oil?

    Lots, straight from the factory.
When you change your oil it’s brownish, not golden, like when it went in correct?
    Carbon. That’s why.
This happens when the oil does it’s job and lubricates the engine. It’ll smoke slightly. Nothing to fret over.

Want to see a lot of smoke? Tune a Subaru to 400 whp and run it hard for thirty minutes. Pop the cap. It’s like a forest fire. :)

I guess the next step is to research this 3.5 v6 and the Atkinson cycle it now has.
