I've decided on the initial setup we talked about(5100's ome coils)when I'm ready to buy I'll talk to headstrong and see if we can work out a package deal.
Hehe ive never been the one to stance anything in fact I think it's flat out stupid, most of these bros and just looking for likes while hardparked, I just want a firmer ride, and it just so happens that the setup I want will enhance the appearance by giving it a slight lift. Same thing with the tires, stock tires are great for pavement, but not so much else where, and with that said when I do upgrade the tire, I might as well get a taller tire to better fill out the fender well.
I agree on not using a spacer, if I do get another set of wheels I'll buy a proper offset just so i don't have to use a spacer, I've never had good experience using spacers, just another variable for vibration.
I will keep this thread updated with whatever it is I decide to do.
I'll let you know if i need anymore help
Thanks for all the help so far Andrew, I appreciate it

Holy shit man, that is pretty nice. Don't misunderstand me when i say pavement princess. my philosophy has always been that in the end, it's YOUR truck. If you like the way it looks, feels, handles, by all means never let anyone stop you. It's your money, your truck, do what makes you happy.

With that in mind, what i prefer is something a little less than what you prefer. which is why i went with the 5100's and OME 2887s. Does everything i want it to do off-road and more. :) hope i didn't offend you with the pavement princess comments.

Sweet man! Enjoy your truck. Just fyi, if you want a little bit of rake in the back, you might want to go 2 inch blocks and the extended 5100's. Ill let you know if it settles to level with the 1.5 inch blocks but i have been thinking of going to 2 inch just for a little rake.

I'm excited to see what your finished product looks like. I really believe you will be happy with this setup. I am for sure. Oh also, i haven't had any tacoma lean so far.... i'm sure as the truck gets older i might, but right now i have been ok.

If you don't do much off-roading and like the ride of your truck, spacers are fine. Personally, as you can see from my post, I recently switched to the 5100's and OME 2887 springs. LOVE IT. The spacers for off roading were really, how can i say it, shitty. The toytec spacers i put on after were ok but still nothing compared to the 5100's and ome springs. That and some nice blocks on the back are a great set up. About clearing 285 or 275s, I have heard that some people clear it without spacers, some people don't. You will need to remove any mud flaps you have in the front and most likely do some trimming here and there in front. not much but some. with a 2 to 3 inch lift, you really can't go too wide. Maybe someone else can chime in on this one.

Also, if you're even moderately mechanically inclined, you can install it yourself. it is pretty cake. you will need to have a shop assemble the struts if you go with OME springs and 5100's or if you get pre-load spacers. if you get top spacers you won't.

Would an AAL setup in the rear coupled with 5100s (I'm thinking the 2nd gen version) be good with a steel rear bumper with swing out? everything I've read on here is questions about the front

That's a lot of weight all the way out on the end. The factory springs with and AAL will only handle that for a bit before they will sag.

I was only referring to the rear set up, was going to go with some OME springs and 5100s out front. I'm not doing a steel front bumper though, just the rear and trying to get 2-2.5" of lift

And my response was for the rear suspension.

    Hello everyone,

As with many others, I am brand new to lifts. From reading this forum it is my understanding that in order to achieve a modest lift, in the neighborhood of 2-2.5", I can use bilsteins paired with OME 887's up front and some type of add a leaf system in the back? Would I also need to change out the shocks and coils in the back as well?

Essentially I just want a very modest lift, just to the point where the truck is almost level and the lift is barely noticeable, but I do want a lift in both the front and rear.

    I would appreciate anyone's advice!

    Hey,

an AAL will give you a lift in the rear for sure but it will also change the way the back rides. What i mean is because AAL will make the rear stiffer, it will make the back a bit more jumpy when you don't have a load. They are good for sure though. Going blocks will help keep the stock ride when lifting. If you have the money, I would change the back shocks when doing any sort of lift. The stock ones work, but they bottom out super quick when lifted. I ran them for a little bit with a 1.5-inch lift and personally, on road they were ok. The moment I took them off road, i hated it. Going with the 5100s is good but depending on the amount of lift you want in the back, you might want to go the extended 5100s. I'm at 23.5 in the rear with 1.5-inch blocks. If you want to keep a slight rake, you might want to go 2-inch blocks. I may go to a 2 inch AAL in the future, I do haul a lot of shit when i go off road so having an AAL with a slight rake would be beneficial for me.

right now with the 2887's with the 2016 5100s. i'm at 24 inches in the front (measured from center of the wheel hub to the fender. Considering i was at 21 before lift, it brought me about 3 inches of lift. I'm still waiting on final ride height after the coils settle a bit. Shouldn't be too much longer. I know most people end up around 2.5ish in ride height after it settles.

the TLDR would be, it all depends on what you want to do with your truck.

LMK if you have any more questions. I'm no expert but i'm happy to help if i can

Hey guys, just about to pull the trigger on a toytec lift kit -- I'm planning on running a C4Fab front bumper and winch combo, as well as a Mobtown rear plate bumper. I'm looking at the Toytec Boss Performance kit, do you all think that the 650 lb springs will be fine with the additional weight? I know that the springs are adjustable, so I can change the ride height back up after the bumpers are mounted, but is that bad for the springs or ride?

I have searched high and low guys, and I try not to be "that guy" that asks the questions about "can i fit these tires with this lift" but I need to....

I'm putting my build together and doing the Bilstein 5100s for the 3rd gen, OME 888 Springs, LR UCAs, AAL in the rear, 17x9 wheels with a -6 offset, Toytec 1" Body lift, Cab Mount Chop.

    I dont mind trimming plastic....

can I fit 295/70/17s? or should I stick with the 285/70/17s?
