I'm over there most of my days off. Love it.

 

I’m surprised you wouldn’t be more drawn to Wisconsin. I’m not too familiar with Southern Illinois. Maybe it’s better than around where I am?

 

I like the way you think. Long time ago I meet a retired engineer. He custom built a shed with a roll-back roof to support his astronomy habit. Their ranch house is my dream house. 3500 square feet, one bedroom, two bath, and one giant main room. Oh, and the main room has nothing but windows on three walls, which look out beyond the wrap around porch.

 

It's very rural. And very poor. And I like it.
There is a hole in the wall restaurant in Olmstead we go to that is owned by 3 sisters. One of them tells me to fuck off when I walk in. Even when it's crowded, she yells it across the room. And there is some decent scenery considering it is relatively flat land.

 

So you made a great impression on her huh?

 

What Shauna said... Illinois is one broke ass state. They’re thinking of more ways to tax us as we speak. We’re thinking about maybe, moving to Missouri or Iowa when we retire.

 

Sounds about perfect. But the house I own is only half that size. I'm thinking my next house would be 2 bdr, 2 bath, 12-1400sq ft. You know, too small for visitors. And the mandatory wrap around porch.

 

Missouri has some gorgeous hill country. The same area just happens to be highly desirable by more than one mining company, so be careful when house hunting . Talk about neighbor problems.

 

That's the only thing that keeps me from moving there now. I had my wife almost convinced until we started looking at the taxes. I even found a couple of acres I was all worked up about. It bordered 3,000 acres of my favorite hunting area. Gonna post up a google earth view in a sec.

 

Ya, not only is it an ugly State (up North anyway) our taxes are ridiculous.

 

Come to California... we can teach you about taxes

At least you have good weather, & the ocean. I guess that’s all a matter of opinion so I should rephrase and mention I hate the cold!

Btw, I've killed about 30 deer in those woods behind there.

 

My current house is 1700. I think it's too big, it takes most of my Saturday to vacuum, dust, and mow, Sundays are for fixing whatever breaks on a 60 year old house. I'm getting more fond of the little cabin on wild acreage that I don't have to weedeat.
