Took us forever to evac Rita, and when we finally got as far as Nacogdoches that fucker curved away from Houston and hit us there.

Ike sucked. Damages from Ike were exactly one roof shingle missing. But we were without power for 23 days. And that sucked. Because of gasoline issues we decided to park one car and ride share with the other. When the car reached 1/4 tank we parked it and started driving the other one.

Neighbors came together like never before. One was a manager for Fuddruckers so a bunch of burgers and cookies circled from door to door - we took what we needed then passed the tray to the next neighbor. Then the next night, another neighbor would empty their freezer and cook for the block. Another neighbor ran 10 extension cords to his welding truck so we could all plug our fridges to it, at least until it was our turn to empty it and cook for the block.

Kinda sad that as soon as the power came back on, we all slowly sank back into our own inside worlds.

Very well might be. I spent one high school summer being the gopher on his construction crew up in the mountains. Every Saturday he'd say "make the grocery list son, let's drive into town for our errands, and while we're there maybe we can get our money's worth at the ol' squat-n-gobble."

All this time I thought he was talking about the buffet. Weird.

I take no credit other than pouring beers and even then I have no idea what we're drinking. Something unlabeled from the brewery here. Some sort of pale ale

 

That's sounds like the rest of the clan around here. I like them, but hear that comment often.
No one has come around to mushrooms but I have converted a couple of them to the flavor and aroma goodness of a burnt onion.

 

WiFi won't cook the S'mores, anyhow.
