Until I got my pellet stove a few years ago, I heated the house with wood almost exclusively.
Plus I'd cover the fire at night with some hard coal so I'd have embers to get it going again in the morning.

    It's a big house.
I built on an addition 25 years ago specifically to have a really big workshop on the first floor of it.
    That part is well insulated.

The old part was a hunting lodge a hundred years ago.
Chestnut logs and chicken wire/mortar between the logs.
    Impossible to insulate.
Though it helped somewhat to strip the roof, lay down Celotex and build an entire new roof over the old one...
    ...adequately vented, of course.

I was burning 6-8 cords each Winter in the Brunco coal burning hearth insert.
Al cut by myself and hand split with a maul.

When I get bonuses like that I just get a beating on taxes. $500 becomes $300 . Just give me $350 and we’ll call it even….

They're adding taxes on top of it so that it nets those amounts.

Nah, it's Covidious freebies. I guess they got a government check and are passing down what they didn't keep.

Well, I can't physically do it any more.
    Not in that quantity.

I got a lot of satisfaction from it, actually.
Subbing interior trim left me with a good bit of down time.
Which I'd use to get firewood.
I had a truck, chainsaw, the State Forest is practically in my backyard, and I was good at it, so why not?

I kinda wish I could be as self sufficient as my grandparents were on the farm.
Before rural electric service and modern machinery.
Even though it's a hard life if one isn't born to it.
My Mom was a city girl from Birmingham and could only take it for 20 years.
That's when Dad gave up the farm.

Anyway, I do love the pellet stove, and it's very efficient.
I use about 4-5 tons each Winter.
Which is a helluva lot less work, even though I refuse to have it delivered.
I get the pellets and stack up the bags myself...for now.

You'll be there every day your supposed to correct? You shouldn't be penisized/penalize because of taking your vacation.

This is a serial killers favorite season. You can dig graves in the yard. The neighbors think you have the holiday spirit.

    Uh, or so I’m told.
