Do you watch Matt's Off-road Recovery at all? Ed's Jeep they just recovered ended up halfway down a mountain after an avalanche where it sat for like 30 years. I imagine similar vehicle moving events happen when you find them in random how would they ever get it there locations.

It's a long and expensive story I have had to come to terms with so what's done is done. Local contractors don't return calls and some of the damage was extensive and more than we wanted to tackle (nor would we be doing it in 20* weather). I'll be happy to put what we had to pay long behind us.

    Just thought I'd share.

I love the winter, cold weather, snow.... My dad and I used to go Elk/Deer/Moose/Caribou hunting most every year when he was still alive. We camped in a WW2 Army surplus canvas tent that my dad had owned since the 50's. In October/November 2000, we went on a special Elk hunt up in Yellowstone/Grand Teton N.P.s. The season was 45 days long, but I didn't have that much time off work, so we only stayed for 30 days. First week was nice weather, in the 50's day/30's night time. In week 2, Winter decided to make its appearance. It didn't really ever snow much (never got over 6" deep total), but the temps went waaaaaaay down. The temps overnight got down to -20*F, daytime temps never got over ~20*F. Everything froze. All our canned food. Water. Cans of soda. The first night of these extreme temps, our wind up mechanical alarm clock froze and didn't wake us up the next morning. I had to literally start sleeping with the clock in bed with me to keep it warm enough to continue working.

It was so cold, that all of your breath overnight fell back onto your sleeping bag as vapor, and then froze, so we woke up each morning with a thin sheet of ice on top of us.

These pictures are actually from a different trip - Colorado Elk hunt near Rifle, Colorado in October 1996. I posted these, as there was a good bit of snow on that trip. But this is what all of our hunting trips (except those when we hunted in Canada, eh? This was my dad's 1996-ish Toyota, that we would hunt from, and his 1965 Ford that was our tow and gear hauling vehicle. These were taken with one of those disposable 110 film cameras, so the quality is kinda low.

And this is what it looked like inside our tent.

Thanks. Fwiw they're really really nice windows going in and the work that they're doing to the front will all be metal wrapped so we probably will never ever have to deal with it again.

It's just disappointing to see the damage the previous owners just let happen. So much could have been prevented with just general maintenance.

I try not to dwell on it too much. Just repair/clean and move on. The house already a million times better than when we moved in and feels more like a home than an endless project. The light at the end of the tunnel is near!

I’m glad it’s coming along for you. We wrap all casements in aluminum. It has always surprised me when this is not done. Do people not realize the damage the weather creates?

Be prepared to get sucked down a rabbit hole because now we're watching all the Fab Rats stuff while they rebuild it.

I'm not always this positive about it but I'm trying.
