I have done it. You can do it. Just make sure you get the right rope and goop for your stove and thoroughly remove all old goop.

The likely problem will be removing the rusted, crusted, baked, fused screws/bolts on the clamps/retainer ring… they can bust/strip. Just don’t damage the threads in the door (you can always get new screws).

    or…

take it to the stove shop if you are unsure.

Morning everyone! I learned a few things yesterday. Having a kidney stone will make you want to fucking die and fentanyl is the greatest shit EVER!! I had to bail out of my deer stand an hour before dark yesterday because the pain was so bad . Had my wife take me to ER at 7:30 last night. The pain was excruciating and my blood pressure was 187/110 . They hooked me up with some fentanyl and the pain subsided and B/P came down. They sent me home at 11:00 and feeling good now. I have got meds for pain and to increase urine flow to flush that bastard out. I hope it comes out soon because that was the worst pain I’ve ever been in.

Precisely why I haven't messed with mine! I printed off instructions from the internet years ago...something about cleaning the catalyst in there too...pffft..just get it stoked hot enough to burn it clean once in awhile

Hmm... thanks for the tip about the hardware. We actually have 3 stoves so I can try one of our others that aren't a daily to be my test subject.

Ouch. Obviously you're feeling better today but hopefully it's much much better!

Glad your feeling better but I think what @Sweet T was referring too was the initial pain will be second to the passing of the stones.
I've luckily so far never dealt with them.
