    Not a stupid question at all. The ground isn't even, so I had to use it for leveling around the pond. That and the soil around it was not great for plants which I wanted to add. So I pulled out the rocks and clay and gravel as best I could and created a garden around it.

    Thought about it, but I've got a lot of vertical plants coming out of there. The lilies go up and down daily and I didn't want to impede some of the other critters that wander up.
