    Not quite.
Morgoth was defeated by the Valar and thrust into the Void at the end of the First Age.
The new baddie is Sauron, Morgoth's former henchman.

    Gritto Plays Movie Critic

Amazon bought the rights to the Appendices to The Lord of the Rings.
Amazon does not have the rights to the Silmarillion (which deals with the First Age).
Nor does Amazon have any rights to The Hobbit or the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings.

BTW, that's why the new show has "Harfoots" instead of "Hobbits"... you know they're ancestors of the Hobbits, but they can't call them that.
    Cuz copyright.
The Irish Times newspaper has called the Harfoots: "... dirty, hungry simpletons with stage Irish accents".
    Ouch.

So what is Amazon left with?
    The Second Age.
This is 3,000 years and change, between the overthrow of Morgoth at the end of the First Age...
... and the War of The Last Alliance.
Which ended when Isildur cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand.

As shown in the prologue to the first LOTR movie: The Fellowship of the Ring.

So what they've got is a bare outline of events in The Second Age, during which The Rings of Power were forged.
Which gives Amazon considerable leeway to fill in the backstory to LOTR.
    Perfect, right?
If they do this right, they could have a huge money maker that goes on for years.

    If they do it right.
    If.
The trouble is, the showrunners and writers have made something Tolkien wouldn't recognize... at all.
They've falsified and twisted the material.
Which is quite a feat, considering how thin the source material actually is, being mostly a brief chronology.

Tolkien fandom has been enraged at this since the first announcements of who the showrunners and writers would be.
That bunch is part of the Hollywood clique famously dubbed the "Bad Reboot" crew for their hand in the later Star Wars and Star Trek films (among others).
Everything since, from rumors to statements by the Bad Reboot people themselves, has tended to confirm the Tolkien Fandom's worst fears.

And now YouTube is ablaze with videos slamming the new show.
(See for yourself, and be sure to download the "restore YouTube dislike counter".)
Amazon Prime Video itself has temporarily halted Prime subscriber comments on The Rings of Power, and will start "moderating" (selectively deleting) them.

I've now watched it, in small doses.
    My opinion:

Associating this show with Tolkien was a pure money grab.
They knew they'd get lots of eyeballs just from the title alone.
But really, they could have deleted all references to anything Tolkien, and what's left?
Well... basically all of it, which is boring nonsense.

    :burp:

    Oh yeah, one last thing:
Supposedly Jeff Bezos' son is a big Tolkien fan.
Rumor has it that when the project got underway, he said: "Dad, don't fuck this up".

@Pibbles99 this is a more accurate description. (pruned the quote a bit for the more relevant parts to your original question)

Well, tomorrow I'll be ordering the new tail lights to match. Showed my pops and he's coming around to liking it. He even said "well, now you need to backs to match the front. Get em". I'd say those are the last purchases, but I won't lie. Skids and then sliders next

What degree did you get? I like em as a safety measure. Last thing I need with my luck is coming off a rock and slamming onto the body

If you’re going with the Morimoto/MESO tails, you may want to wait. There has been quite a bit of issues reported with V1. At $650 a pop, you may want to wait till MESO releases his limited edition or just go Stage 1 Total Tails. Much brighter and for $150 a good price

Zero on my Tacoma. 15° on my current Land Cruiser. I'd suggest 15-20. Still can use as a step. Bonus they sometimes protect from door dings when mall crawling.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'll go with the standard degree offered.
Thanks for the heads up. What are the issues? I'm usually pretty on top of these things but I haven't dove too far into the tails.

leaking and condensation, plus simply breaking off and falling out. MESO has warrantied them but I’d be skeptical. My favorite has always been the TRD Pro tails and the stage 1 kit. Best looking and functional in my opinion

Even if you have to buy new OEM Pro Tails and Stage 1, you’ll save good money and get much better functionality and performance

@FishnTx has the MESO tails, he had lots of condensation but not sure what came of all of it

Very interesting. So far no issues with the headlights and they came with a warning of potential condensation. I keep/kept everything I take off so backups are always ready
