Story Time With Gritto

Closest I ever got to bull riding was when I was a kid and my Dad would sometimes lift me onto a cow's back.
What a joker.
Some cows actually didn't mind, though some did.
But when you're bringing in the cows for milking and their udders are full, they ain't gonna jump around much.

Then when I was about 17-18, they put on a kind of "Rodeo" at York Springs.
They were offering, I forget, $100 bucks if you could ride a bull for what is it... 5 seconds, 8?
Whatever.
A hundred bucks meant something back then.

The Bull's name was "Bonecrusher".
That I remember distinctly.

My high school buddy and I were egging each other on.
We swore we were gonna have a go at that hundred bucks.

In the end, we chickened out

 

You sure ol Bonecrusher wasn't the big gal in gym class?

I once smacked a bulls ass with an aluminum coal shovel because he shit in his stall and it splatted on my leg. That Fukker went nuts, I was booted in the ass all the way out of the barn and was never allowed back in there.

I don’t take no bullshit.

 

Mind over manly malarkey!! Very wise. Fuck that noise man. I’ve been bareback on a retired quarter horse. Bunky was his name. Dated his owner who also enjoyed riding without a saddle…,anyhoo…
I fed his big dumb ass for about 3 months every morning before I was drunk enough one night to give in to this chick telling me to ride him. ‘He knows you. He likes you!’
It went rather well for about 8 seconds, then he bolted like someone fired the gun to race again. I was yanking that mane, leaning over to yell in his ear, and digging in both heals in such a fashion that I put Suzanne Sommers and the thigh-master to shame. After about 2 laps at horse warp-10, he finally chilled, snorted, and started prancing around all proud. I was less than amused and let him know it. (Smacked his ass!) Hopped off on the fence. Bastard licked the side of my head!!! We were cool after that.

My Dad was a hard man.
Once I witnessed a young cow try to kick him when he was putting on the milker.
He got up and grabbed up a big stick (which he kept handy) and whacked her between the eyes as hard as he could.
She squatted down momentarily, stunned.
None of the cows pulled any shit on him more than once.

Bulls are a whole other thing.
I remember a neighbor got killed by one.
He had that bull for years and from time to time needed to attach a chain to his nose ring to lead him somewhere.
Did that many many times.
One day that bull wasn't having it and crushed him against a wall in the barn.
