    My Dad didn't arrive in New Guinea until mid 1943, I believe.
    He originally had orders to go to North Africa, but his plane developed engine trouble and his squadron left without him.
    So he received new orders for the 5th Air Force and the Southwest Pacific.
    IIRC, the tour in the SWPA was more than the usual 25 missions in Europe.

    I don't know if the 403rd was his squadron, or was a sister squadron in the same 43rd Heavy Bombardment Group.
    Anyway, a lot of men passed through that Group, as men arrived and others completed their tours or became casualties.
