Folk Remedies You Can Use... With Gritto :)

My Dad once told me about a natural flea repellent, handed down from who knows how many generations:
Pennyroyal he called it... or more accurately American False Pennyroyal (I looked it up and the two don't look at all alike)
It's in the Mint family (as is true Eurasian Pennyroyal) and grows as a weed in sunny spots.

There was a small patch of it by the milking parlor on the farm.
As he told me about it, he plucked one up, crushed and rolled it in his fingers, and held it under my nose.
    Wowza, that's pungent.

He said the womenfolk on the farm used to bring bunches of it into the house in the Summertime.
Or grab a handful and rub it all over the cat or dog (who ain't a-gonna like it), for fleas.
Or use it yourself to repel skeeters :notsure:

It's quite a small plant, only a few inches high.
Some come up every year next to the wood fence in my back yard.
If you see something that looks like this, crush it and have a sniff.
    You'll know it if it's Pennyroyal ;)

It's hard to describe the smell.
Not sharp like peppermint, more grassy smelling and deeper, but still very minty.
Every bit as pungent as peppermint though, and more lingering.

So, three days ago, I called the stealership and made an appointment for my oil change. I asked how much and the person said $79 . I asked why is it $25 more than the last change. She said you do synthetic oil? No I say. She said ok it is $56. Good I say and make the appointment. Upon checkout I’m asked to pay the $83 . I explained what the other person said and they looked into it. Got it for the lower price. Think I’m gonna do my own from now on

The Cheapskate's Guide To Country Living... With Gritto

The used (synthetic) oil works fine as bar lube for my chainsaw.
Just follow the service interval and don't let the oil get ridiculously dirty.

Also... does anybody else make newspaper logs?
Roll up newspapers tightly, put some rubber bands on it, and soak in a bucket of water for a day.
Take out and let dry, it'll be pretty solid.

    Here's the good part.
    Don't tell the EPA :spy:

Another way to get rid of excess used motor oil.
Put some excess oil in a big coffee can and stand one of those logs in it for a day or two.
It'll soak up a good bit of oil.
Burn in your coal burner to get your coal fire going good and hot.

    Waste not, want not.
And I ain't payin to dispose of it :)
