Good whisky is hard to come by in UT (state liquor stores). I make a "bootleg" run every six months for my sister in-law who lives in SLC.

I'll see if they carry that in any of our local stores. Looking for a good whisky to drink around the campfire on local TW outings...

Random obscure tall tale: The geologic theory of isostasy (Earth's crust floats on the mantle like an ice cube) came about thanks to one geologist's assignment east of SLC and his habit for whiskey.

In the 1880's, Clarence Dutton was assigned to map out the high plateaus of Utah. During this assignment he liked to occasionally hitch up his wagon and ride towards the Nevada border for a replenish on spirited drinks and loose women. After a number of these trips he noticed that there were a series of bench-like plateaus that he crossed over along his route, they matched in formation and thickness but not in elevation. The east side was about 200 feet lower than its matching counterpart to the west. He theorized that a high density mass was pushing down on the crust explaining the difference in elevation - the great salt lake itself. A couple of years later he wrote a paper on it and became a celebrated american scientist for his efforts.

    Got ya beat.
1955 here. And I still like Ike. :)
That's President Eisenhower to all you kids.

Just about the earliest thing I can remember is Sputnik.
Oh no! The Russians are coming! Khrushchev! Yikes.
All over the evening news for what seemed like forever.
Yes, people were upset. It was a big big deal.
