I am outside Rochester MN. in SE Mn.

Can't believe your sister lives in Baudette! Yeah she has to look across the Rainy River to see Canada. Hired a guy from Intel in Az. about 15 years ago and his family owns 400 acres between Baudette and the Falls, it is his old family homestead in Birchdale. He had never shot a deer or elk when in Az. and I had kind of reputation for hunting big game back then and he asked if I would teach him how to hunt and go there with him. Told him if I could take my son then I would. He became an animal he and my son both shot a lot of deer there. We would go into Baudette to get cell phone reception, you have got to be kidding me.

Baudette is where they automobile manufactures take cars to test for winter and cold on the old Air Force base that is converted to a winter proving grounds. Some damn good commercials have come out of that place.

First year the straight line winds knocked down my family tent that worked OK in North Carolina and Georgia camping. Not so much where the straight line winds sound like a freight train coming at you in the middle of the night at more than 60 mph. So ended up with a Cabelas Big Horn that deflected the wind better.

The ice chests are to prevent the food and water from freezing. And who ever gets up in the middle of the night to piss better put a log in the stove.

During deer season it can warm up though. Some. Better sit down and take your boots in the vestibule or you will catch some shit from me. I keep a clean camp.

Hard to believe someone else even knows where Baudette is!
Most of the record book deer are in SE Mn. where I live. But now that I taught my son and Blaine how to still hunt I go to the North Shore of Lake Superior for most of the month of October. For ruff grouse :anonymous:

Not that is any warmer in the winter than Baudette.

But I love it there. -32° and Canada is across the lake. In the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness.

Lots of good fishing up there also. Me and a buddy went deer hunting up there several times but no success but, that was back in my drinking days before I got serious about hunting!

I often think about going to the Sunset Country of Ontario to do a cast and blast. But why?! There is some damn good fishing in Mn. Exhibit A- Lake of the Woods near Baudette

Well maybe it will not beat Lake Nipigon in Ontario, that is going to happen sooner than later.

But Mn. has some damn good fishing too.

In the 70's caught a 44 lb. King Salmon on a 8 wt. fly rod with one of the first palming reels and a 10 lb. tippet. That was in Washington State. From what I have read that is a dream in the past. But there is at least one person on here that can still do that where he spends a lot of time. Because Alaska...

Been on Lake of the Woods several times, good walleye fishing but that’s about all we fished for.

I’m going with my buddy to pick up a new Honda side by side. Then we’re heading to his farm to try it out and do some shed hunting so I might have a story later. Want to go....oh wait, you’re working. Sorry!!
