Its nicer that the shit water we had when we had well water. Some well water out here is really good, ours wasn't.

 

I'm super lucky my water is excellent quality. And the added water softener it feels great in the shower. Well just isn't deep enough anymore with the added homes since it was drilled in 1965. It sucked up a slug of dirt last year in the drought and alsmot took out my system. About $15k for a new one.

The rainwater cistern is pretty good water, but not drinkable. Gonna have to abandon it soon as it was built with cinder block right against the foundation. Already leaked once, and only a matter of time before it does it again.

I grew up on a farm in western Pennsylvania coal country.
Well water there typically has excessive iron and sulfur in it and smells bad.

We had a well for the barns and outbuildings.
More for mucking out, cleaning equipage and all the other things you need water for.
The dairy cows preferred to drink water from the little stream down in the meadow.

For the farmhouse, we had a spring house.
You'll often see them next to old farmhouses to this day.
In dry years, we had to be careful about water usage by late August.

The well water was particularly bad at my Grandmother's house, about 100 yards from Buffalo Creek.
With coal mines upstream, Buffalo Creek was orange in the 60s.
No really, the sulfur coated all the stones in the creek.
It doesn't look like that anymore, but I wonder if there are any fish there now.

I tried to search for some pics, but found nothing.
Here's kinda what it looked like downstream at the confluence of Buffalo Creek and the Casselman River.
I remember the orange color being brighter though...

Have a friend in St. Thomas out on Race Track RD that has a well that's only 25 feet. Basically surface water is what she is pulling. It's the most foul water I've experienced. I think Bear Valley water is close, not sure what it would take to get it there.

On my family farm, surface water was better.

 

Anytime you run the water, it's sulfur city. House is right across from St. Thomas Recycling so I guarantee you it's polluted. Not to mention it's all farmland.

I can still feel an area that’s a little tweaked but I’ve been doing things all day . Washed the camper ,planted a dozen mater plants
Clean the air B&B . Added chlorine to the pool ,grocery shopped. Busy day .
