I rented an Outback a few years ago. I still have wet dreams about her. The handling was incredible, the ride was cush, I have grown used to having a pickup bed. I don’t know how I’d live w/o it. I do not miss doing hatchback jenga with large purchase or moving stuff.

We had a '19 Outback for mother a while back. The experience was mixed. I really liked it, rode decent, had plenty of room, and was a tank in the snow.

Then it started to develop a massive oil leak from the cam carriers. Normally they just seep, but this was actually dripping on the dealers floor. Engine had to be pulled out and re-sealed under certified pre-owned warranty. After we got it back, she just didn't like it anymore. Guess it was a mental thing. I didn't mind it.

That would be the thing I'd be worried most about, is something like that - and I'd be the same way, if it had a major repair, I'd be questioning the car from then on......but I'd love to rip one in the snow like that!

It's typical on those, not a bad job, just it has to come out due to space. I knowingly bought my WRX that had a new turbo and allegedly used engine put in. But the corrosion on the exterior of the engine seems to track with being original? However it looks like the engine was re-sealed and there's no oil seeping. I know damn well the FA20's did the same thing. So, it's all a mystery. If I have to build an engine it's around $6K for a new shortblock and getting my old heads re-worked. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru o_O

I actually don't plan on driving it in the salt much. For one the tires on it now are hot garbage and I have some nice Cooper's on the truck.

I'm trying to think of which direction I'd go if I got out of Old Blue (Tacoma). And I was thinking about the Outback again.... the thing that steered me away in the first place was being told by some:
"If you blow a tire or need to replace a tire on a Subaru Outback, the new tire HAS to be the same exact diameter or it will destroy the AWD system. And was told Rack *will* shave down tires.....

I just didn't want any of this to deal with even though blowing a tire is rare. In fact, I've never blown a tire in decades of driving.
