No, Orange County refused to give them permits

They didn't want a Walmart in their backyard because they are all fucking NIMBYs..

They want drug treatment and to give a pass to criminals but don't want the rehab facilities or halfway houses in their zip code cause that is bad for THEIR property values

The folk up there have always been like that (since I was a wee time) but it has gotten way worse in the past 15 yr or so

I know the area I was in was bougie… even the areas I visited were bougie. Damn near a retirement community, except they’re younger and more singles than families. I was told shit tons of corporate sponsors due to developed “work campuses”. That’s what companies did in California and started in Houston. Work and play at work. One of the areas we went eat was developed to encourage work, play, live atmosphere. No car necessary…

 

I stay away from those places

Haha, no. Don't care for them or whatever else is in them. I'm on a certain diet that MREs won't fulfill.

 

@NoOne Yeah a lot of times, Walmart will get denied approval in one county and then just go to the next one over.

Personally, if a community does not want one, and their city leaders block it, I'm fine with it.

Business and public interest is a balancing act, you can't increase the tax base without businesses of some sort. The problem is, when they increase the tax base with businesses coming in but don't lower property taxes on the residents.

Personally I think Amazon does far more damage to local businesses than Walmart does. The funny thing is, the people who bash Walmart won't bash Amazon usually.

Walmart killed local groceries and convenience stores. HomeDepot destroyed local hardware and lumber stores. Amazon cornered the “cheap” market and brought Walmart into the global economy (remember their “made in the USA” days?). Really, it all comes down to moral responsibility. My gung-ho neighbor rails against illegals, but then goes get guys from in front HD and brags about how cheaply he got his roof done.

 

Yeah I get it man, I see the big picture. I just want consistency when people get angry about this stuff. Amazon is a monopoly IMO at this point and needs to be busted up. It's like, how much of the economy are we going to let Bezos control?

Does anyone think Amazon at some point won't be selling cars or busting into another market?
