I never go barefoot anymore, I was wearing good shoes when each foot broke. Just waling from bedroom to kitchen.... Doctor set me up with a good pair of orthotics (shoe inserts), and they definitely do feel very supportive. The left foot broke first. It hurt like hell for about 3 weeks. Which is about when the right foot broke. It only hurt for less than a week, and neither have hurt since then. When the Doctor did her exam, she gently pressed on each foot at the site of the break, and then it hurt just a little, but doesn't hurt at all otherwise, thankfully! And the Podiatrist also said the break is almost certainly the reason for the muscle pain in both legs, she described how the tendon routes up from the bottom of the foot, and would have been very much affected by the bone break.

Went to the river yesterday expecting a nice beach to ourselves like usual since most people choose to float. Instead shortly after getting situated another truck pulls up and a couple and their two kids get out. Okay, no big because it's a large beach area and they're not close.

Few minutes later and truck number two shows up with a truck bed of children and a very apologetic father who was hosting a birthday party with more kids to arrive shortly in his wife's sequoia

We had chosen poorly and I guess smoking and relaxing was out of the question.

But I had a new book and a fridge with Jameson and plenty of mixers (they had offered us beers as an apology)

    IMG20250810160442.jpg

Him and his wife had 10 kids between them  His mom used to be in the same industry as I was but now owns one of the restaurants in town that I try not to go-to a ton because they have the best pancakes and I'll have to order them. They seemed like very cool people and good parents.

What are your expectations? I'll see if I can rally the troops a bit. Maybe bribe them with special gifts?

Me either, I go barefoot as much as I can :fistbump:

About 25 years ago I was toting bundles of shingles up a ladder to do my roof.
The arch in my left foot basically collapsed.
Doctors were remarkably unhelpful and I had to cope as best I could with inserts and wrappings.

Then there was my Appalachian Trail fiasco a few years ago
I've hiked large sections of it but always wanted to do the whole thing.
Nah, broke bones in my left foot and the right as well.
This was on the second day out :annoyed:

Mind you, the Appalachians are almost unimaginably ancient.
They're worn down, yes, but what remains are hard, ancient exposed bones and some of the roughest terrain anywhere.
The Pacific Crest Trail, for instance, is hundreds of miles longer, but the Appalachian Trail is tougher and takes much longer.
The Appalachians are also much more dangerous than most people realize.
Get lost and injured and there's no chance of finding you except by search party on foot.
Forget air search... too many trees, tangled laurel Hells, etc.

    Hmm... where was I?

Yeah, you eventually pay for pushing your body too hard.

    Amirite? :)

It's a very large spot with the best beach area and I wanted to enjoy myself more than I was going to let them annoy me.

Plus the dad was like a drill sergeant and it was pretty impressive to watch. No crying. No flights. Just everyone having fun.

I would think that's just a matter of finding better footwear but you know your body best so :notsure:

I couldn't wear sneakers for a long time after having my first foot surgery but it was because the screw head was rubbing on anything I'd wear so I had to have it removed. Had I not had the second surgery I'd probably never wear sneakers and even now I rarely do so I get it.

so...apparently, I have a problem...I'm obsessed with these damn lantern fly's, I have 1 lonely 2 foot wide sugar maple, and Im absolutely killing the shit out of them...so I thought. Last Saturday we had a belated birfday party for our youngest, he's 31, well him his wife, and my oldest, came to the house for ribs and such, and I thought hey...the boys got there, so I took them out back and showed them the lantern flys, mebbe just a couple, well all hell broke loose, they were sprayin a Dawn-water mix in a squirt bottle and knockin em down, they prolly amassed aroun 30 or so. This morning I went out and there was only 3, so they got dispatched and that's when the light went on, and made my 1 gray shrimp in my skull to start scurring.I got the hose out..put it on jet setting, and started spraying the overhead branches, well sum-of-a bitch, it started raining these basturds left-n-rite, lets say in about 20 minutes time i dispatched well over 40 of these winged pests. and the hunt continues....

Shoes make the nerve pain in my feet worse
I only wear them to prevent injury pretty much

I hate wearing sneakers to run but that's the only real choice
I take em off at the end of the driveway tho sometimes
