It's big here too, and I used to go every year.
Quite a challenge. For most guys, it's a matter of luck to hit one.
    I'm not exaggerating much.
I took up competition trapshooting originally to sharpen my wingshooting.
You'd think with a shotgun pattern it would be easy, but there's a lot of air around a speeding dove.

I've read that (apart from trap and skeet), dove hunting accounts for the bulk of 12 gauge ammo expended each year.
Doves are plentiful, and guys who hunt them (something of a misnomer), get plenty of shooting.
I can't tell you how many time I've been out with my folding camp stool next to a cornfield (yeah, that's pretty much dove hunting)...
...and all around me, sporadic flurries of gunfire.
And you're gonna get sprinkled if there are any hunters near you.
Not hazardous really with #7 1/2 or #8 shot at greater than 100 yards.
Skybusters is the common term for most dove hunters.
    Blam! blam! blam! :p
Later at where I parked, I'd talk to other guys and see they hit maybe a couple doves.

Pretty much all there is to a dove that's worth eating is the breast. And it ain't that great.
I'd give them away whenever there were any takers.
Haven't gone for a few years, but yeah, it's fun.

Wanna get good with a shotgun? Skeet or trap.
Yeah, this is me at my handicap yardage.
