Question regarding cell phones.....
I am with at&t, my phone needs replaced. I would rather not go to the at&t store to get it replaced. If I purchase a unlocked phone, can I just put the sim chip from mine into the new one and be good to go, or am I going to have go pay a activation fee?

Pretty sure you'll have to make sure it's also unlocked for at&t, but other than that you should be good to just pop your sim in.

How can you tell?

In addition to what @OneGiraffe said, you'll probably have to switch all your files and contacts over. Usually you can find a video on how to do it yourself, but you can also take it in to AT&T. They should do it for free.
