    Do you own any of these? I've noticed my handheld cannot pickup some of the freqs that my desktop RTL SDR can (And that is using some dinky antenna your old boombox/radio/alarm clock combo unit would use. Looking to max out my Yaesu's receive capability as much as possible!

    I don't but a quick scan of eham showed these as decent upgrades.
    I've got a dual band mobile, FT-7900r in my truck with a Larson 270B. Planning to pick up a handheld for a second radio though.

    When I took my HAM class, the guy teaching it mentioned 1,000 times that some baofengs are not legit baofengs... or something to that extent. Possibly newer versions that were made "cheaper". I dunno, I only picked up on about half of his rants.

    Also FYI, I just got my GMRS license via the FCCs maze of a website. Cost was $70. And it’s good for 10 years and covers you and family. As opposed to a Ham license that only covers the licensee.
