I recommend increasing your budget tbh, as a $1,000 limit doesn't seem plausible

I admit I am only speaking from others experience. maybe someone can chime in about a sub-$1000 turbo build ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just a manifold and turbo alone will run ~$1000 new if you buy lesser expensive items. Like a Treadstone Mani and a Garrett journal Bearing Turbo. If you can find decent stuff used, you may be able to stretch that. You can also find really cheap stuff like the Mazworx Manifold: http://www.mazworx.com/store/p/76-Mazworx-Log-Manifold-Kit-4-Cylinder.aspx You just need to be able to weld SS.

Some of the cost will depend on other factors as well...if you plan on using an internal or external WG, how much boost you plan on running, intercooled or not, what type of gauges you want to use? These things will determine if you need a fuel pump, different injectors, an IC w/ associated piping, clamps and couplers, etc.

You can source a used manifold here and there for decent, $300-400. Or make one yourself for the same. CX journal bearing turbos are like $150-200 and are pretty decent IMO. IC kits are cheap from CX as well, maybe $300-400. A downpipe isn't hard to make yourself and neither is exhaust but just in parts another $150-200.

That's $1200 on the top end for a complete dog shit turbo build and you will still get nickel and dimed for another $500 if you're lucky on random stuff. Oh and this is with no fuel mods what so ever.

Just keep your eyes peeled on the classifieds and start collecting parts.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
$1k will hardly buy a good fuel setup and management system. A must if you want things to actually work and remain intact.

Depending on the condition of the rest of your truck, you could wind up with about as much invested as the truck is worth.

What about ancillaries like clutches, rear ends etc.? If you don't boost enough to stress those, you're not having any fun.

You might want to find a copy of this book and read it a few times before letting late night interwebz bench racers to set your expectations.

Yeah... 1k isn't possible for something reliable.

I'm over $3k for 100whp over stock with 175k miles

A holset from a dodge diesel at a junkyard will be properly sized for a tacoma 4 banger
