Stock tires hauling a load with winter sandbags (subtract 0.5mpg according to hand calcs):
    IMG_20190307_110351.jpg

    IMG_20190307_110718.jpg

Trip from Satsop to home lightly loaded in winter also (subtract 0.5mpg according to hand calcs):
    IMG_20180909_163209.jpg

Now, I average about 20mpg corrected for lager ATs, a Softopper, and some permanent weight.

    In all, zero complaints.

I’m sure it’s mostly driving habits such as driving at high speed and hard acceleration. These need to change.

That’s a sight to behold, highest I’ve seen was 21. I was actively trying to get as much as possible.

There ya go... Before I bought mine, after tons of research, I knew what to expect. Since I knew what to expect, I'm actually pretty pleased that I get 1-2 mpg better that what Toyota says I should get, so I look at that as a 'win'. Not that 1-2 mpg is a big deal, but at least Toyota was not bullshitting me on what to expect.

It is all this, my buddy has pretty close to my same setup (Blocks in back instead of AAL) but rest about the same only gets 14.8MPG average while I get 18.6MPG doing the same route he does.

    stock: 19ish mpg combined
    “ + 32” tires + Softopper 17mpg combined
    “ + Prinsu and mid-travel 13-15mpg combined. Had as low as 11mpg with a headwind, averaging 90mph.

Just added a Hardshell RTT on the Prinsu, and plan on 33s here in the next year or so.

My old 2013 4.0L DCSB automatic with shell, 33s and mid travel got 10-12mpg consistently. I guess it’s an improvement?

Unrealistic expectations. With the evolution of trucks, and the subsequent correlation to drivers, expectations have risen for trucks to somehow equate them to economy/luxury cars, rather than to SUVs. Trucks are utility vehicles, yet most buyers are buying an image and not for utilitarian purposes. Ask people in the trades how their gas mileage is on their 3rd gen. Pretty sure most are either thrilled or don't care. Everyone else just didn't want to be seen in an SUV - the modern equivalent of the station wagon. :)

I enjoy driving much to care about the mileage. For the size of my truck I think it does OK.

HAHA - yeah...and this is not my only vehicle - but obviously the one I drive the most.

My main office is 60 miles away - so 120 mile round trip. I usually go in 7 days a week. We own a horse farm - we are about 30 minutes to an hour from everything (except a few local restaurants and small shops and ACE, Walmart, etc). There are a lot of bad things about being out in a rural area...but I can walk out my door, fire off pistols/rifles/shotguns and not hit anyone (unless they are trespassing). I bought this place back about 12 years ago - plan is to retire here (6-7 years).

I'm in New England and almost every Toyota dealer has half a dozen 2nd Gen frames behind the dealership ready to go. I've 'heard' that the third gen frames receive some sort of coating, but the jury is still out as to whether it will work. I have no idea what chemicals are put on roads around here, but with the insane snow and ice it is probably salt :-(

I quit looking at gas mileage when I managed to make a 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder get 13mpg on the highway. Lol.

I remember owning a 1973 F250 4x4 (HighSchool days) and getting about 10mpg... I did not care back then as it took Reg gas (No, actual REG gas, all the lead you can handle) and was $0.75/Gal
