OP, Six months ago was a very different market than today, and honestly, likely to be different yet again in six more months.

Right now, expect a fair market price if you take it as close as possible to stock. Additionally there is a a fairly strong used market for most your high dollar take-off parts.

The question is, where do you think the market will be in six more months?

Um toyotas spec. Look at his travel in photo 2. He has maybe 1/2 inch clearance. Just look at it.

That truck couldn't go over a penny without grounding out

I might go down a size on the tires, for sure, for more challenging off roading. For what he does with the truck, it's perfect. In my opinion

Sorry guys, G2.M6 and TexasWhiteIce are right. It might not be a lot of wear, it might not even be considered damage, but excess weight, non-stock angles, tires that are over stock size; in this case under 31" to 33" is significant, especially the weight alongside the likelihood of a cab mount chop should it be caught in any potentially requested inspection or disclosed by the seller. It's all something that could affect the performance or life of stock parts in the long haul, possibly safety if the CMC weren't done by a good welder.

The CV joints might not be totally done, but we can't see the angle, we don't know if the angle was corrected, we don't know if there's been any issues. Over all it's just another "what if" and potential for error. It's quoted that CVs aren't a huge issue and they aren't but it sucks to have to replace a part you didn't want to replace because everything else looks great.

honestly for me, trade-in is much more worthwhile.

selling privately is always a pain in the ass.
about the only private sale option anymore is facebook marketplace, craigslist is all but dead.

i sold my last truck to move into the tacoma when the market first spiked. i had the tacoma on my 5-10 year plan, but my original truck was only worth about $1-2k. then the market spiked, and it was 'worth' $6k private sale, but was too old for a dealer trade, it was still realistically a $2-3k truck on trade-in--if they didn't discover the rust issues. so i pushed really hard and sold it within 2 weeks privately, had the new tacoma in 2-1/2 weeks.

in all, i had probably about 10-15 hours in dealing with people.

it went something like this for the entire 2 weeks:
    "is this still available"
    yes.

    "is this still available"
    yes.
"will you trade 2 non-running jet ski's and a snow board?"
    no. cash only

    "is this still available"
    yes
"will you trade for a 1996 cavalier with only a small hole in the engine block?"
    no, cash only

    "is this still available"
    yes

    "is this still available"
    yes
"will you trade for a 2006 charger with 350k miles and only a little rust issues?"
    no, cash only

    "is this still available"
    yes

    "is this still available"
    yes

    "is this still available"

    "is this still available"

    can i meet you tomorrow?

Fork I can't stand selling used vehicles, some get their rocks off on it, and that is fine, but not me.
I inherited an older vehicle and had a buddy in the biz sell it,,, go figure he got top dollar, sold it for cash within 48 hours of having listed it, never heard from the seller again. He didn't want anything, but I still gave him $500 cash for doing it,,, best damn money I ever spent.
But I am with you, if I can? I will trade it in, I don't want broken PWC's or motorcycles without titles.

In the end "worth" is what someone's willing to pay for it. It's a great looking truck with quality parts. You didn't cheap out on the build and it shows. You should market it with local truck clubs- this way they'd get to see the truck first hand. It's difficult to get the feel of all you hard work online. There's got to be someone locally that can appreciate all of your hard work. But it might take some time.
    Good luck!

yeah, technically i only 'gained' $3k over trade, but the margins changed because of the low price point. at $20-30k, i'd happily give up $3k to not have to deal with that again.

At this point, kbb good condition for private sale. Nobody will pay extra for the add ons. Even the topper.

List of for what you think it’s worth and see what happens. Prepare to have a bunch of tire kickers argue over things like CV wear as you’ve witnessed. Your market will be limited as was suggested given there are add-ons and unless someone is paying cash or has great credit….used auto loans aren’t where it’s at right now.

When I sold my truck prepandemic I stripped it of all aftermarket essentially and sold that stuff separate before selling to carvana for a price that was essentially middle ground between private sale and dealer low ball, and I was happy with that, because again, tire kicking jackasses and all that.

That being said I listed my GX470 in an enthusiast group just a few months back and had a buyer within a week and the vehicle had significant but clean mods and I ended up with what was a fair price for me and the buyer given the current market.

^ for a while carvana and similar startups were flush with cash and looking to break into the industry, so were giving payouts near private sale prices. all of them have hit the rocks more lately, so their payouts are more in-line with trade-in values.

Yeah my experience was prepandemic, I understand things are different currently with the current economy.

So much has been said on here about mods-do they help or hurt. This forum has changed my mind on that topic. I've been getting bids on trading in my 2020 OR and although I don't have many mods on it, every dealer has said it doesn't matter and it doesn't help or raise the value. Crazy, weird and strange but unfortunately very true.

Lowball at 30k as is minus the cap and roof rack. That's considering I could find a local truck with as clean of a frame. Factoring the market and mods, I'm never going to pay used retail rates for a Tacoma.

    Enough for now
great truck with tasteful and quality mods. You’re in SoCal? List it for $40k and see who bites. Is it 4WD or 2WD?

Dealer =/= private sale. The only return anyone is going to get on modifications relays solely on private sale. And that being said no one should expect msrp back on their add-ons, though during peak pandemic I saw a lot of folks who jumped into the Toyota world for Instagram clout expecting just that and it was nuts. Even saw a couple examples of people trying to recoup labor costs for all their bolt on shit they had installed for them (fricken Lexus owners).

The truth is somewhere in the middle. While no one really wants to pay a premium for someone’s aftermarket kit, the right buyer will pay to some degree, you just have to wait til they come along which could be tomorrow, or a year from now lol.
