I'm not trying to sell this here, but can you help me ballpark what this is worth? My new Tacoma will be delivered in the next 2 weeks, so it's time to think about selling by 2006 4runner V8 Limited. I'd like to sell to the dealership my truck came from (unlikely), or a used car lot in the area. Not really interested in a Craigslist style sale.

    Features/upgrades-
    • V8
    • Limited
    • 170k miles, mostly highway in Seattle area (salt)
    • I paid 17.5K in 2012
    • Carplay/Android Auto
    • OME lift
    • 31" Firestone A/Ts (5x, near end of life)
    • Demello front bumper
    • Weld on sliders (CBI?)
    • Ditch lights (Photo shows one- I have since repaired the other)
    • Will get a detail before I try to sell it (SUPER dirty in the attached pictures)
    Known issues-
    • V8 exhaust leak (My mechanic has same truck. Says his is worse than mine, and he hasn't fixed it yet.)
    • Sunroof doesn't work
    • Rust on frame and sliders (not structural, but enough to not feel great about)
    • Proud pinstriping (never buying a black vehicle again)
    • Has been in at least one fender bender
    • I have two golden retrievers. The interior is in surpassingly good shape for a 17 year old automobile, but it's more of a "dog car" than not.
    • One fog light is only half functional

I was in your situation a few weeks ago. I sold my 2004 runner SR5 V6 with 261,000 on it to a private party. Carmax offered me 2,500. Dealer offered the same. Sold it for $6,500. I had about 4 solid buyers who would have taken it off my hands for that price but the person I sold it to was a friend of a friend and was nice enough to buy it the day I picked up my truck. She bought it for her 16yr old son and 2/3 other buyers were wanting to buy it for that reason.

My suggestion is to look at what dealers and small lots are selling your year/model/miles for online and undercut them by about 2-3k. That should be enough to get you a few serious buyers in your area who are running those searches. Good luck!!!

Update- Carmax website is suggesting $5,116-$8,646, which seems... ambitious. I'd probably be pretty happen even on the low end of that spectrum. That's about a 1k/year depreciation. I have an appointment on Saturday- will update this thread with what I learn.

The V8 is a highly sought after T4R, you have low miles and the truck will clean up well, even your custom pinstriping will buff out pretty easy. Kelly Blue Book says in fair condition your trade-in value is $5,100-$7,100. If you're happy with $5,000-$6,000, do a fellow Yota lover a favor! Run it thru a car wash, vacuum it out and put a FOR SALE sign in it for $5,500, you'll sell it in a few days. Why let the greedy ass dealership detail it and charge $10,000-$12,000 for it??
You'd make some young persons year by keeping the dealer out of it.

    Update-

Mr. Detail is Seattle got her looking real nice.

Carmax gave me a ready-to-commit quote right in the middle of the Blue Book range, which I'm pretty happy with. I'm going to shop her around at work and through my personal network, but likely take her in to Carmax next weekend. Thanks, all, for the input!

SOON. Appreciate it. Delivery date is sometime between 2/27 and 3/5, so I'm expecting a call any day!

I’m local. I might be interested in buying it from you if you still have the T4R.

Thanks for asking! I would love to do that, but I got caught up in whatever delivery hold is happening right now. My truck landed in San Francisco (Port of Benicia), but it's stuck there until someone can physically go inspect some unspecified manufacturing issue. Not a recall or safety issue, which is somewhat comforting. 30-45 days. I sold my 4runner already, so we're a one car family for a bit, but it's not really a big deal.

If it takes 60 days, however, it delays my Super Pacific install and a 23 day road trip. So yeah. Hope that doesn't happen.

That’s really frustrating. But, I’m glad they are getting it taken care of, whatever this issue may be.

How much did you get for the 4Runner? And did you sell it privately?
