Nice! Those RWD celicas were awesome!

My sis had 86 gray celica auto with who knows how many ks, that thing just drove forever. I was amazed.

It was a great car except for the rust. The strut towers eventually peeled away from the front fender wells and the car was obviously becoming a death trap, even to my teenage mind. When you opened the hood, the car would drop an inch as the struts were being supported by the hood.

However, the 4cyl 18RC engine was a gem, and the 4-speed manual was so well designed you never wished you had a 5th gear.

That cleghorn vid is just a small play area off of the 2wd fire road. Any off chute is really not suitable for a 2wd at all. They can be done:anonymous:, just not advised if you like your truck.
Speed is your friend in 2wd, until it's not. At that point something get broken and/or you are stuck.

    Yeah. We made do.

I loved this car. Pics of pics are lame but hey.....film.....it was the 90’s.

    Note my BFG tires!

You can spot my dads brand-new (at the time) 1990 4Runner in the one pic. Leaked oil from day one. My Celica’s engine was arguably a better product. Two blown head gaskets later on the 3.0L in that 4Runner and my dad sold it. Whenever people here lament when Toyota’s were a Japanese product, I think of my rusted out celica and my dads leaking 4Runner, and I look at my trouble-free Texas Tacoma and reconsider those ideas.

It was the biggest POS lemon i lve ever though. I replaced pretty much everything in that car and the engine siezed going up the bridge, haha! But yea, lots of fun. I was very rough on it, first time ive ever tried power shifting:D worked just great!

On my very first car the hood latch was wonky and naturally on a 2 lane bridge the hood blew up and was on the windshield, fun driving the rest of the way off the bridge with a hood blocking, lol.

Since I hijacked your thread a little, here is my honest reply.

If you want to travel off-road, beyond simple gravel roads, in a 2WD truck you need these things (absolutely, no exception).

1 - good off-road tires that will not get cut up, or get punctured, when aired down (recommend 6-ply C-rated LT All Terrains etc)

2- a good tire gauge so you can determine how much air to let out reliably.

3- a 12V compressor to air up your tires when you get back on pavement.

4- a tow strap so you can get pulled out by others if you are stuck

5- basic survival kit if you get stuck.

    6- a tire repair kit.

    Nice-to-haves, but not necessary:

    - traction boards (maxxtraxx etc)
    - chains for winter or heavy mud
    - ‘come-along’ or tirfor (hand winch)

It's all good. Thank you for your opinion, it is very helpful.

You can probably have the most fun in a 2wd off roading:

Just need good tires and a winch to pull yourself out when you get stuck.
