I was wondering how much it would be to install a speaker/subwoofer system in my taco. I also want to know what kind of speakers to buy. All answers are greatly appreciated!

    What he said...

It all depends on what you want. And what you want it to do.

Like the head unit.. There are so many... from 59.99 to shooot over a grand just for a head unit. So it can be pricy.

$500 will get you a decent deck and speakers. Once you get into amp/subs it varies a lot depending on size, power, number of subs etc.

I got JL Audio's and they were about $120.00 each.

I have Focal 165 KR. If you have the means I highly recommend them. AMAZING sound quality.

A full sound system usually runs 1000-4000 dollars in materials and equipment on average.

You can also spend a fortune on sound deadening to improve the quality of your sound system or spend under 100 bucks.

I kind of went nuts on everything.

3 inch toytec, magnaflow exhaust, KNN intake, URD MAF, HID 55 watt, Hella 500 HID, Smoked tail lights LED running lights, Pioneer deck with 8 inch infinity sub, Focal 165VB and 165CVX with JL 320/4, Tinted all around 3%, Tinted interior lights.
I have to agree Focal makes the best speakers i have ever heard. I just put the Focal 165CVX and the Focal 165VB in my truck with a JL 320 4 Channel. Sounds amazing you can hear things that were never reproduced in other speakers. My girlfriend has Hertz and they sound good but the Focal sound way better in my opinion. Good luck with your search!

Opinions on speakers... Personally, I am not a huge Focal fan. Good speakers, and probably some of the nicer you will find in places like Car Toys, or other shops.

I have had systems run the gamut of stock head + super expensive gear, all the way to a basic deck + speakers. Call it anywhere from a $600 system to multiple systems running multiple thousands of dollars. But then, I install my own, and know a fair bit about what I want, and how to get it - and am willing to pay for it...

For an average user that wants better sound, and to not research and test, and swap out gear, and research more, etc - go to a (trusted) local shop, let them set you up, and be happy.

Stay away from stuff by Jenson, Pyle, Boss, etc. Go to a shop that sells Pioneer, JBL, Alpine, JL Audio, etc. Ask about the features you need, talk about budget, and call it a day.

While I found Focal bright on a sound board... in a Tacoma they are not. The K2 series 165 KR, because of the very off axis stock tweeter location, do not sound bright or harsh at all.

Its like that speaker was custom made for a Tacoma install. I figured I would have to attenuate the tweeter since I dislike bright tweeters but the 165kr just sounds perfect with no harshness set totally flat. I did have to reverse the polarity on my tweets to get it to sound right though. I have never heard a clearer speaker.

The downside is it completely exposes any flaw in the source material.
