They leave you alone in Canada because they are hunted and have an instinct to be afraid. Take away hunting and a few generations those grizz will be like black bears in ct...they don't give a F.

They don't give a fuck when they get attention and fed.

It pisses me off so much when I'm at provincial or national parks and see people trying to feed bears or whatever animal. Sure just make them used to people where they don't fear us and see us for food.

Realistically we aren't in their food chain so any time they attack it's in defence not food.

There's no grizzly near me, only black bears and as I said above in the provincial parks close to the cities, they aren't as afraid. But where I go camping I see them all the time and they just walk away if you see them

I've encountered bears before only once did one not run as soon as I looked at it .

And that one that didn't I merely clapped . He got spooked but still stayed around as little curious . One little burst of spray and it was gone

Probably accurate, never put a pistol in one, it just holds my stuff. I don’t carry a pistol/bear spray when I ride, and I live in bear country. Instead I just dress in “bee” colors, so It thinks I’m just a bee and not a human. Bears don’t like bees.

Carry this around for an efficient alternative for a good spray down for the incoming bear!

So - I've spent all day researching bear spray and it comes down to this:

    FINAL SHOWDOWN:

COUNTER ASSAULT 10.2 oz VS. UDAP 18HP SUPER MAGNUM

Also I will get the nice looking holster somebody in this thread recommended.

Would love to hear from people who have used both products and can speak from experience.

No I am not getting a gun but thanks everybody!!

the one time I had to use bear spray I was using sabre bear spray and it was on a black bear fully grown.
bastard was too curious haha. he wasn't actually that close maybe 10-15ft away in the trees watching me.
I yelled a little, he came a little closer in no way ever threatening more so just curious. I started clapping to try and scare him away in whcih he still stayed there looking at me. I sprayed a little burst towards him and he shook his head almost looking like a sneeze and then took off.

I can't speak to the brands you've posted as I've only ever bought sabre as it's the main one found in stores around here. But realistically as long as the capscacium(sp?) and ingredients are all the same I don't really think there will be much of a difference other than trigger.

I camp in areas with lots of black bears and only once ever actually had that minor encounter. Next slight encounter would be airing back up after the trails and turned around and saw a black bear in the woods near us. I honked the horn and it ran away. It wasn't even looking at us the horn just spooked it and he took off. All the other times I only saw them running away as they spotted or heard me first and took off.

At least in the case of black bears, just being smart with your food, they don't cause any issues.

Lol that's silly, you think the bears that are hunted (aka dead) told their buddies from the great forest in the sky?

Hunting pressure will change their behavior. Lots of bears are hunted, not all are killed. Those experiences create fear, that is passed down the generations. A deer knows a wolf is dangerous. It doesnt have to be killed to know that.

Deer are prey and afraid of anything. That's a hard sell that bears will learn to associate humans with death. If they were that smart don't you think they'd avoid roads by now? If anything the hunting season would just put animals on edge because more people are coming into their habitat at times that they normally aren't.

Obviously the best bear defense is hiding inside a yeti cooler.

Black bear, brown bear, mountain lions are all prey of people, they are shot for meat and pelts...that's why they run from people. Hunting pressure provides the best deterrent for any non hunter in the woods. That's why a mountain lion in California has less worries and more interactions with people than a lion in Montana. Here in ct bears are living next to people not in the deeper woods...because its convenient for them and there is no danger. The state has acknowledged that they are moving into our neighborhoods...not us into theirs.

I have no interest in going around this circle anymore.

Get whatever spray fits in your pouch OP. Chances are you will never need it. If you do, better get it on video.

Probably for the better, you dont know what you're talking about if you think humans arent the cause of bears moving into suburban environments. Less undeveloped land means less habitat and less food.

It sounds like you think there is only 1 simple answer; yours. There is not. Sure if you build in the mule deer migration corridor you'll create problems and see more predators that are following that game.

Grizz is Yellowstone follow elk hunters and take it over once it's down because they are protected in that area = no fear.

I agree, too many people in the world is also a problem. Are you volunteering to not have kids?

If I didn't know you better I might say that your stubbornness to be right and not even acknowledge data from the other side of the conversation is what is wrong with social media debates.
