i had KM2's and they were TERRIBLE on snow/icy roads. 'ok' in deep snow and slush but most the time down right dangerous. I ordered a set of studded duratracs and didnt need 4wd the rest of the winter. they were incredible.

with that said... i also ran Trxus Mt's and they were extremely good in snow/ice/slush/rain/mud/deep snow.. they were actually just as good in adverse conditions as the studded duratracs.

i think a trxus mt in 255/85/16 would be the best tire to run in winter conditions.

I've always had good luck with Toyo M/T's in deep snow, couple inches or some ice. However past 50% tread left they act just like a highway tire as far as snow driving. Had them on my Tacoma, 4runner, and F350 Diesel.

A lot if you offroad, increase ground Clearence so instead of smashing the under side of the truck you can roll over obstacles instead of smashing into stuff. The main point of lifting is to clearance for bigger tires.

I can dig deeper and get stuck worse before I hit my frame. Haha just kidding... kind of. I have more ground clearance so I'm not dragging as much through snow/mud etc...

Yes and yes haha. I wish I had some meaty mud terrains though. Soon enough. Soon enough.

Your question was about traction though. What affect does diameter have?

His tires are exponentially wider then mine, thus more floatation then me
