I just replaced mine with a new oem unit. Completely changed the feel of the truck. Got it for $511 from thousand oaks Toyota. Always liked oem parts and it didn’t disappoint. Seems like most options are about the same price. I’ve also heard good things from the rebuild ones from Low Range Off-road.

That's a good price, for some reason I thought OEM ones were way more $ than that. I assume it didn't come with new tie rods though, right?

Unfortunately no Outer tie rods, just the inners. I also got some Oem outers for $47 a side though.

That's good it came with the inners, those are usually really expensive to buy on their own

So just wondering... Did the 1st gen taco ever come with completely Manual steering? If you have 31's or smaller tire size, 4 cyl & standard cab, is power steering needed on a truck this size?

That's a good question...I'm pretty sure it's always had it, but there may have been some bottom end base models that came without it in the early years, I'm not sure.

Did they try and sell you on a nice new $55,000 TRD pro while you're there?

Glad you had a good experience and a fair price from them but they've gotta be one of the worst dealers. I go out of my way to Simi or Valley if I need a Toyota dealer.

I actually ordered it from their website and had it delivered. I live in Az now, but at the time I was in Carlsbad so it was just easier that way.

Best rack and pinion is OEM. A parts house one will be sloppy within a few years of service

yeah but a LC Engineering Rack & Pinion Is much stronger then a OEM.Heres the thing about Toyota "OEM"..when the truck was new Toyota had all kinda of parts ,or the company they went though to get the parts did. Over the years company's that Toyota got there OEM parts from changes over time.Toyota doesn't make a RACK and Pinion in some TOYOTA factory somewhere.Toyota gets them though company's they trust, like denso,Asnin, ect. Are trucks are old. Everyone dosent make parts for them still..I out of all people get it thoug,I like the security of Toyotas name on certain parts, like my 3k Transmission I just bought from Toyota, when my buddy would have built it for 1250.00,
but yeah I get it buddy,i probably 15k min in Toyota OEM parts receipts in my box ,In the end its what You want on your truck, and 'I" don't want a OEM rack because I brake them!!

Lots of dust and custom dents, Check Build
Toyota OEM rack is the best available. Period.

What proof do you have that the LCE is better?

I bet it's just a cheap Chinese rack with a hefty markup.

Honestly lce sells a lot of oem Toyota parts. the OE rack is made by TOYODA, if the name is on the lce rack it’s likely a oem rack. The rack on these tacos are pretty stout, I’ve never really seen major failures unless high mileage or ball joints falling off. (Or cheap inner tie rods installed)

    Negative sir,
OEM is good, but not the best..Tacoma's are known for weak rack & pinions..Toyota doesn't even make the OEM rack, they just put there name on it.
I know a few buddy's that have good luck with these "American" made rakes from LCE .
But you can trust or run whatever makes you feel confident ,
I've owned my truck since it was brand new,!!I have 170,000 miles behind the seat of my truck, and can tell you that it drives better then it did when I bought it hands down,,I can go do the hwy and is solid over 100 mph, can you say that about your truck?
Not trying to come of rude, just syin
