For the price difference between buying new and a used 2nd gen, you should just buy new. I love my '11, but I bought it new for the above mentioned reason, plus you know where all the abuse came from. You'll miss the manual transfer case on your '04 regardless.

For me, the switch to the Entune audio/back up camera made me hunt for a '14/'15. I was able to find a GREAT deal on a 2014 from a dealer, and I love it!

I almost bought new because it seemed like the price difference warrented it, but I got my 4x4 DCSB Off Road for about $14,000 cheaper than a new truck with same features, and it was Toyota Pre-owned Certified.

Only thing that boggles my mind is there is no ambient air temp gauge anywhere! Only the stupid Weather Channel app on the Entune, and it suuuuuucks.

That's kind of where I'm at. I can get a CPO 2015-14 from my local dealer with under 40k for $26-28k. I figure my current truck is worth maybe $7k

Yeah, and it seems like there's no break in price on 2012/2013 compared to a 2014. I got mine for $25k.

Such minor differences across a decade of production. Buy the best one you can afford.

12+ Have seccondary air pump issues that are now under a extended warranty program. I fixed mine before that program with Tundra valves for $110.

14-15 and JBL 12+ trucks have intergrated backup cameras and entune. You can have a massivly better setup with a $500 aftermarket headunit at your local car stero place.

Face lifted trucks look better...but they all look best with steel bumpers.

This^^...yeah, what the hell Toyota? When I have no digital radio (like anytime I’m where I’m bought my truck to take me) I don’t get a current temp? Pet peeve, excuse the rant.

The 05-08’s have a limited slip differential available on at least the TRD sport models. Also no computerized traction control to turn off when you get stuck or if you want to spin the tires for any reason.

From what I read, you get it repaired under the extended warranty program they extended for it if it's broke
    Then/ Or
if it's not broke yet, just add the exterior filter.
    Problem solved.
    Yes/no?

    That filter ~$5.

I would assume a '15 would be best since its the last year they made the second gens and should've had everything figured out. But I have a '13 so I wouldn't know lol I have no complaints about my truck and no major repairs just fluid changes

I have the filter $15. The pump can still fail. The valves will still fail. Yes, Toyota is fixing the problem after it occurs. I wish it was a recall because I travel in remote areas regularly. I'm sure I'll be 50+ miles from pavement when it fails, leaving me in limp mode. I was the first v6 guinea pig for the slyfox mod, but his bypass doesn't work on the v6, only the I4. The only real option is to wait for it to fail and hope I'm near a Toyota dealer when it does. I could do without that stress.
