I thought it only failed because the foam inside deteriorated, and by adding the external filter it stops it from deteriorating?
I guess I need to read that thread again!

Nope. They have two modes of failure. 1)Eating the foam air filter and 2) the valves corroding and getting stuck.

This. 2015. The Secondary Air Injection has the extra purge cycle, and the rear leaf springs were upgraded from 3 to 4.

It was the only year to have the compass and true temp in the rearview mirror. Also the back uo camera sit in the rearveiw mirror as well.

    Workin' on it....
    Can't argue with this.

But if you are looking at second gens, I'm partial to the '13 since the compass and backup camera is in the mirror, the dash clock is retained and the secondary air injection system has the feature to run for a bit after the truck is off to reduce condensation (I've still done the unifilter swap mod though) and failures of the pump still do occur in 13'-15' but less common than in the '12's.

Late 2011 when they finally got the frame rust issue resolved and before they butchered the grill/front end. Only one year with that grill to signify the best of the best.

I don't think anything has been resolved on the frame rust issue. My 12 is rusty

2011's got Hino frames....Moved away from Dana. My 2011 frame has had nothing done besides car washes. Looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor.

2009 or newer because '09 was the first year for backup camera, AUX input, and a bunch of safety features like traction control and extra airbags.
