I read threads occasionally on here about how the ABS in early tacos wasnt as good and Toyota did some improvements in 2009, presumably when they added VSC. Someone with experience with before/after could probably tell you more. I have only driven a 2011.

Go out and test drive some 05-11 TRD Sport DCLB's (if you can find any used one's as they're hard to find), just make sure to get a 2nd Gen b/c they're bigger than the 1st Gen's. IMO 2012 is the way to go, but it all depends on what YOU want.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
2011 was the last year before they changed the truck so I'd say that. Would steer clear of 05's though just for the simple fact that new models of anything always have quirks and shimmies to em. But other than that, any year is good I would think. Can't go wrong with a Toyota.

skip the 2012 or 2013 if they have the "normal" drive shaft shudder problem. My 2012 does, it sucks.

Or if you want a 2012 DCSB OR, buy mine, apparently it would pass Toyota CPO just fine.

I got an 05 with 124xxx no problems here ( well except for squeaky leafs) but that's fixable

Nummi was told it was closing around mid 2009. So that would mean they already made most of the 2009MY vehicles. 2009 would be a good year for sure.

You might want to drive an '05 before you accept this as fact. I had an '06 and it did not hold a candle to the '05 that I got to replace it. I have had zero issues, problems, or other with my '05. It drives, handles, shifts, brakes, and generally out-performs the '06 it replaced. An added plus is '05 had no TPMS.

    Agreed. See above.

I have had 3 first-year-of-a-major-change vehicles out of the last five I have owned, and had no issues with any of them. It's not a 'simple fact' that 'new models always have quirks and shimmies to em'

My '08 was purchased in May '08 and had a Mexico-assembled rear diff. That's why I have a new diff (under warranty) :p

Despite the naysayers, I would want an 09+ because of the ATRAC system. I ride with FJCs all the time, and the ATRAC has seemed to be a benefit (this only applies to the offroad community - on-roaders don't need to care). Since the OP wants the scoop, this is a moot point since the Sport model is the only one with scoop (ATRAC only comes on Offroad package).

If the scoop is a must, then you have to go Sport, and the Sport has a LSD rear end. I think that there was a changeover from mechanical to electronic LSD, get the mechanical.

If you want to try it, you can buy a non-scoop model and try to trade hoods later.

If the OP wants a DCLB, I would rather see you get a Tundra. They are practically the same length, but you get better room in the Tundra, a V8 to push all that weight, better creature comforts, and list keeps going.
