I didn't read the entire thread, but my dealer just got a batch of 2017 Tacoma catalogs in, and under mechanical it says :

    Brakes
Power-Assisted, Ventilated Front Discs, Solid Rear Discs and shows standard under all models.

The digital edition still says rear drum.

Those shocks are a gimmick like crawl control except they don't have MTS built into the same system to save it

Yeah they're state of the art race proven technology. The company that developed them is Canadian and they're the real deal.

Idk, I dont think there will ever be a drive off the dealer lot and off road truck that wont need some kind of modding. What fun would that be?

I'm not even 100% what safety sense is. However, the 2017 I just bought has enough tech for me. I don't want my truck driving for me! Hence the reason I bought a manual trans; So, I can connect with the vehicle.

I don't think they will make too many styling changes. I hope they don't do something big, that will make me wish I waited. Nonetheless, I love driving this truck!

Just like the Sport model fake hood scoop, the 2018 Off Road model will get this switch for those with Jeep envy. It turns on the glovebox light.

A lot of guys who write those blogs wouldn't even know what it is. Read about it, and once you know how it works and why the racing guys use it over other alternatives then you'll be in a position to judge. Or, wait until all the serious off road guys start using it and then follow the herd.

Nope, new copy of 2017. Guess they are updating them ahead of time?

The saving grace of the trd pro will be that you can still get it with a manual

    Safety Sense is TSS-P.

Lane departure alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Auto High Beams, Pre Collision with Pedestrian Detection.

Definitely going to be on every Toyota besides the 4Runner and 86. Toyota has all the parts in the world for these systems bought for the next 18 months.

I am more excited to get my power sliding rear window lol...coming from a 16

Trading in for just a power sliding window isn't worth it to me. trading in for a power slider plus the safety sense stuff might be, depending on how much of a price increase it causes.

My 2000 4Runner had a power rear window. After the 'newness' wore off, I hardly ever used it (same with the sunroof). I prefer AC.

I used mine once to make sure it worked. It worked. I haven't used it since.

I use my rear slider everyday. I wouldn't have bought a DC without it. Why bother if you can't reach it?

I could see some utility in it for many but for me it hasn't been a big deal. I do prefer power over manual any day though. Maybe some day we will also get to enjoy the benefits of a power driver's seat too... LOL

Two more years and I will have my second gen for ten years. I'm on a ten year plan so in 2019 or 2020 I will start looking. I will keep an eye on the Tundra and hopefully they will redesign by then with improved fuel economy(I know, I know, why buy a truck blah blah.) I hope the 2019s Tacoma's have better upgrades. It would be the 4th year for the third gen. I'd like to stick with yota.
