There are pictures on here from what I think was the Texas State Fair so you could see some of what's on the 18.

I'll just put in a first-world experience of this technology saving my life and possibly someone elses. My daily driver while I wait for the Tacoma to arrive is a 2015 Grand Cherokee Overland (HA) which has adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation on board. In my day to day driving, I very rarely even notice these things being there. With the roads I travel, I don't really need ACC, but when I do need it - it's just a simple push of a button away.

The same applies to collision mitigation. The hope is that this isn't something you ever need to use, but it is very valuable if it's ever needed. I truly believe things happen that are simply outside of your control. Now I've never been in a car accident and feel I'm a fairly good driver. However, I don't believe it's uncommon for people to feel this way since I can't say I've ever talked to a male (or female:angrygirl:) that has openly claimed to a poor driver.

In my case, I was driving along at 60 mph on a single lane divided highway behind a fairly old Saturn coupe. We had just received heavy flooding the night before and quite a few people were pulling things out of their basements and using transfer pumps to get the water out of their homes. I was talking to my other half on the bluetooth and took my eyes of the road for a split second to look at someones home, when all of the sudden I heard the collision system make a loud beep and before I could turn my head the Jeep had already applied the brakes in full force. The braking strength was so strong it took me a second to figure out what had just occurred.

It turns out that the Saturn didn't have working brake lights and at the last moment decided to stop in the road for a left turn (waiting for oncoming traffic). I was at fault for not seeing him slow down so suddenly, but thankfully the radar caught this (when I didn't) and likely saved the drivers life. The vehicle did everything it was supposed to do to protect me by locking my seat belt, stopping the vehicle and even went as far as muting the radio (which was on relatively low).

I never thought I needed this technology, it simply came with the vehicle when I bought it. However, I can say that this simple peace of safety equipment had paid for itself 10x over by preventing that single accident. In my opinion, I'm happy the auto industry is implementing this across so many models. Kudos also go out to Toyota for putting it in all models, regardless of trim. I don't believe safety should be something you have to buy the top trim for.

    tl;dr; - The s**t works.

Problem with Tundras is the sensors for TSS and adaptive cruise are in the grille. So no more swapping for Pro Grilles. At least not until they bring the Pro back. I was sure glad I bought a 17 when I read that. All that chrome on the nose had to go.

I believe someone said the pro grills already have a spot for the TSS sensors.

@hazards280 I'm glad that feature helped you out there. I don't disagree that its definitely useful I just don't enjoy that you don't have options on whether it is installed or not, or that there isn't a feature to turn it off and turn it on when you want it. Not enjoyable to have to turn it off every single time. I would love to see stats on how it works in the dirt. Majority of people don't care about that but what about people that work in construction, live off the beaten path, etc. Thats my main concern. I'm going to go with a 2017 as soon as I can, Ill pass on these "safety features"

I completely agree HolyReptar. I can see a handful of situations where the technology simply isn't needed. In our instance, I don't like that I'm unable to permanently disable the system when we're out camping and towing the travel trailer. I've had the ACC act up on me once when were towing our 5,000 lb travel trailer on a busy interstate and the car actually hit the brakes quite hard. There was absolutely nothing in front of me, but I almost had a F-150 greet the back end of camper. This created some distrust in the system for me and I've decided to turn off these things every time I get inside while towing.

I do wish you the best in your search for the 2017! I'm sure you'll find one that checks all the boxes! Get yourself a good deal man!

You live in Ventura! Southern CA traffic is TSS mandatory territory if you ask me. ...I grew up in Oxnard by the way.

I’m glad TSS is standard. Kudos for Toyota making it so. Some luxury manufacturers don’t even have these features standard. Unless you opt for the most expensive trims/packages.

The headlights, particularly the high beam, looks reworked, possibly getting LEDs?

Though this may be true for some of the sensors. The new 18 tundra has some of the safety sensors in a box by the rear view mirror.

When I got my truck in May, we ended up going through Toyota Financial. Toyota offered us a crap interest rate but the dealer told them we had a better offer (totally made up) and Toyota matched the offer! Worked out nicely.

Ha. Or that! If there's one thing about car dealers, they are never going to leave money on the table.

A bumper like this is probably going to be a problem with TSS huh?
