My dealer emailed me today, and said they'd find out if I'll be getting my build date tomorrow. Apparently I'm next in line for a TRD Pro in the region (deposit/ordered in August), but one of the six allocations the region is getting will need to be a Cavalry Blue w/manual transmission. I guess that's how it works??? Fingers crossed.

me either. my dealer has a 6 in lift on the 18 tundra and it sold and was his demo. it had no issues and dealer lifted it as the demo. I cant imagine the Tacoma being any different.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still driving 2006 sti around but it'll be nice to have the luxury of a modern touch in a new truck. A reason why I didn't buy a diesel canyon was because of the push button start and Toyota safety sense. Yes I know California spoiled brat

    Also are you ncka?

I'm afraid with the growing trend that we will probably lose 4Lo at some point in the near future.

Being that the light truck buyers nowadays are making the Tacoma a "Lifestyle" vehicle, and require them to have more of the pavement only features, fidget widgets, and other hardware preferences that are usually reserved for cars.

Look at the Ridgeline for example. It's gone off the deepend! It has a trunk in the bed, it has a hood is more minivan than truck. It has car wheels and tires, integrated speaker in the bed. Why? The old school definition of "truck" cannot be applied in any way shape or form for that rig.

The Tacoma is slowly putting on a dress as well, and will be wearing dancing shoes within 10 years.

4 wheel drive will be represented mostly with just a sticker on the side of the truck. Sure it will have the ability to use 4 wheel drive, but only in a Crawl Control fashion, with no human intervention being allowed shy of steering.

10 years from now mall crawling will be at its peak, and those that accidentally dip a tire off the pavement will be able to safely get back to on the pavement with the 4 wheel drive system soon to be known as TFWD (Toyota Four Wheel Drive).

How do I predict such a realistic future? I read TW, and see/hear what features are important to the average buyer here. Then look at where the Tacoma has come from in 20 years. What we have lost in the past 35 years.

    Manual hubs
    Solid front axle
    Single cab
    Transfer case stick
    Nuetral in the tranfer case
    Dwindling market for manual trans

So, back to my original statement. We will probably loose 4Lo pretty damn soon.

True words, just found out tonight at the dealer that in Canada their is no more 6MT off road tacoma in double cab, only access cabs off road and TRD pro's have the manual for 2018, its already thinning out up here.

It's a natural evolution of technology. Love it or hate it, Toyota is a business and in order to be a successful business you follow market demand. I don't think anyone ever accused Toyota of being first to market on any of the features you mentioned. Lucky for you, these trucks will be an the road a lot longer than most. Some may complain about the lack of combustion engine before long. In that case...ya, I would imagine 4LO will be gone, but think about the torque in electrics!

Just curious, what made you switch from a '97 AC to a '17 CDSB?

Ok believe what you want. I work in the industry and the Toyota long range remote is available for the automatic Tacoma.

It really wasn't as much of a switch from one to the other, rather an addition to the other.

I purchased the '97 new for the wife back in '97 for reliable transportation. She was the primary driver of it until 2008. At that point she needed more seats to haul the kids to and from activities.

I drove beater VW cars, and baja bugs for my daily drivers mostly because they were cheap, and I liked the challenges of keeping them running on the cheap.

So, in 2008 I got a low mileage 2005 Ford Expedition for her and I just started driving the '97 Taco as my daily driver. Also used it for kayak fishing and camping with buddies.

In 2015, we decided we did not need tge Expedition any longer, so ditched that and she got a new '16 Corolla just before Christmas 2015.

Now my son is 16 and he picked up driving a manual so well, I figured it made more sense keeping the reliable '97 for him to drive, and I'll get myself my 1st ever new vehicle for ME to play with.

So, already having the long bed '97 Tacoma, as well as our family camping rig '97 F350 7.3 CCLB 4x4, I really didn't need another long bed truck.

Having four doors and good seating for 4 in the '17 as well as meeting my minimal requirements of three pedals and TRD OR, it was going to be the DCSB obviously.

The '97 Taco is on stage 3 in it's life and will be around until it wears out or gets clobbered in an accident.

The '17 Taco is just a blank slate for me to play with as my daily driver.
Expectations will be primarily commuting 15 miles each way to work 1-2 days a week, and taking me, my son and buddies kayak fishing and camping, and maybe some wheeling here and there.

    Fun stuff!

As an accessory or what? I def haven't read anything on stock paperwork about it...but that's freaking GREAT news for those of us in the Northeast! I've got snowflakes popping up on my forecast already! THX.

Check with the parts department. If you need part # PM me. You will need to have the dealer initialize the starter module using a tech stream but you could install it yourself.
