Can someone explain what the Clutch Cancel switch has to do with how the starter is energized? I don't understand how rotating a switch to a momentary position is really that much different than pushing a button to a momentary position. So why can we use one and not the other?

The purpose of the Clutch Cancel Switch is to get you out of a hairy situation while wheeling, you shut the Truck off, hit the switch, put it in 1st Gear and turn the key and ride the Starter out of your situation. A Push Button Starter will not work under those circumstances, look on YouTube for some examples of it in use.

I disagree, it all comes down to programming. you could very easily require the push button to be held until the vehicle starts and have the clutch override switch function the exact same....

But us talking about how it could be done on the internet is not going to get Toyota to do it.....

Toyota follows Kaizen which is all about Cost Cutting every single thing, it would be much cheaper for them to use Push Button across the board so IMHO it is not easily done for them or they would be doing it.

It would be cool if Entune 3.0 was simply a software update.

I don't think we see Rear Discs until the next Refresh and then Seatbelt Mike will come out and tell us how superior they are.

That's how the ENGINE START button works on our brown delivery vehicles. Push and hold to crank until engine fires.

You won't see a V8 in the Tacoma or in the 4Runner again. CAFE rules prevent this from happening.

The only recent "major" changes I've seen in a Toyota 4x4 vehicle's timeline was the following:

    1. The 2010 FJ Cruiser receiving the new 4.0 motor that is shared with the 5th Gen 4Runner after 3 years previously using the 4.0 in the 4th Gen 4Runner. The also got a larger rear diff in 2010.

    2. The 100's series Land Cruiser upgrading to a 5 speed transmission from a 4 speed in 2003 after 4 years.

Some changes are possible. But it's a slow process.

I don't expect anything big, just evolution of the existing design and problem fixing. That's what Toyota does and it is a good philosophy. Just as I waited and didn't buy a 2016 because they need time to fix all the bugs of a new design, I believe you would do good to wait for an 18 so more things get corrected. Good luck.

Bone stock other than new floor mats.
I would suspect some new colors as well? That tends to be standard fair on new model years.

I heard there was more chrome. More cupholders. More gee-wizardry tech. More things to create a more luxurious experience. At more cost.

Just sayin. All marquees tend to swell up their line over the years. New Civics are the size of 10-12 yo Accords, etc. Look at the bloat pattern that Datsun/Nissan did with the Z lineup. Now look at the Toyota truck line. Same pattern.

My wish list is simple: About 20% increase in both HP & torque with a better torque curve, driver side A-pillar handle, power one piece rear window that slides up & down ala Tundra, more tilt adjustment for steering column, 6 speed manual option for all cab/trim configurations, all LED lights, more color choices for the Pro and optional leather seats for both the OR & Sport. Come on Toyota, seems simple enough!

Personally, I'd much rather have power seats in my TRD OR than the Qi charger. Maybe that'll be an option for 2018.

I agree... If the Tacoma scraps the key start in lieu of push button on all models, that will probably do it for me. My wife's Lexus has the push button start (along with other useless crap) and I think it totally sucks!! Hell, let's just add power seats, lane assists, heated and air conditioned seats, voice commands, and auto up/down tailgates. For some strange reason I thought I bought a truck...not a luxury vehicle.
