with all the other options for mid sizes over the years toyota still has always dominated the market.

A lot of people aren't buying toyota for the bells and whistles but the reputation of reliability.

Hey I just went wheeling with @Ttaco15 with the new colorado. Thing did absolutely amazing honestly possibly outperformed all the tacomas with us. Is it a cool truck? Definitely. Is it bad ass that it comes with some impressive suspension and front and rear locker? Definitely.

Is it a GM with terrible resale and reliability reputation? Yes. Thing was fuckin kick ass definitely better bang for the buck than a TRD pro or TRD Off road. But I still would not buy one. Its just the rep they have developed and the cost of ownership of GM that I wouldn't buy.

Jeep can dominate the off road scene in North America and sure GM and Ford can try and challenge that but anywhere else in the world Toyota is the dominating one and its often because of their reliability. Toyota know this and its why I don't think they are really all that nervous over the upcoming Ranger or the GM twins. Sure some may buy them over a toyota, but theres still many that will continue to buy Toyota trucks for their rep.

This is all true, but the stuff they are building now with the obvious problems people are having can't carry them forever. All Ford has to do is get this new Ranger halfway on point and Toyota will have to get their ducks in a row.

It would be kinda foolish to underestimate your competition, the Ranger owned the small truck segment in the past.

what problems are you referring to?

Last I checked the 2nd gens had just as many issues lol.

the rear howling diff wasn't just 3rd gen its 2nd gen too and was addressed by sound deadening

aside from powertrain issues the 3rd gen hasn't really had anything that different from 2nd gen and toyota has kept the rep from there.
i know plenty love to hate on the 3rd gen like its a pile of shit cause its had TSBs and what two or three recalls?

Please, just wait and see how much recall shit the ford and chevy have. We're only really aware of the toyota ones cause we're following them but I wouldn't doubt GM is having just as many issues with their new mid sizes.

CPS failure and the knee airbag recall were their two biggest so far.
One was safety related and fixed within the first few months. CPS was corrected after what 6-8 months?

Rear diff recall is the only ongoing one that I'm aware of and it doesn't even seem like that many trucks were actually affected.

    The rest are just TSBs

Every time I see a truck with a giant lift kit that includes the rear frame bars it always makes the kit look cheap as fuck and stupid as hell

Improve the build quality and start manufacturing Tacoma's in Japan to justify the $40K price tag.

You are on the site, so you are aware of the problems. All the car manufacturers do homework on each other so they know what's fucked up where. Arrogance will get your balls in a vice every time. My opinion is that Toyota knows they have issues, so does everyone else. That being said, they have been on top for so long, they think they can't get knocked off, wrong answer.

    Yeah. And then they didn’t.

We’re talking trucks here not strategizing a ground assault btw so I’m still going with the whole “Ford makes dog shit” and worst case scenario is... they don’t.
