My shop didn't charge a single dime to move my TPMS sensors to my new wheels. And I think the 25% loss of air pressure needed to activate stated by the OP is way off, about 4 or 5 pounds sets mine off. Happens every year, the first cold snap we have.

Ha ha, this is a great thread!

I'm a hippy and I too am disgusted with the idea of the TPMS......but, if you know the right places, you can find air compressors that have a built-in pressure guage in the air hose, so that's a plus...or you could just let someone do it for you like Justa Beaver does! :D

You got the wrong guy...I work in defense as an engineer, my hair is short and I bathe...

When the tmps and roll over issues came out, one of my team members was a former tire design engineer for Dayton tires. Some basic knowledge of the facts goes a long way. Tpms has a very percentage of fake positives, but for a good chunk of the population, it beats a rolled suv full of dead children.

Also, for ford to avoid major lawsuits, they severed their 100 year relationship with Firestone and blamed Firestone for the terrible explorer suspension design.

If you want more of the engineering details, I can provide.

.....I tell you the following doesnt apply for a couple of members as its obvious there not even old enough to drink coffee without parental consent. Next time you see the top on a cup McDonalds coffee read if possible the print...."caution content is very hot" or something alike imagine why under the sun they would do that. Its terible that the lady spilled and burned her ctrotch but at the end of the day if after feeling with your hand you cant tell its blazing hot, tough ****. If it was your restaurant that sold her the coffee would you feel obligated to pay a large sum of money to her ? She did admit she spilled the drink. The issue was it was hot as hell same as its been for ever, can anyone here be careful or responsible without a big honkin warning sighn ?

Don't have a link handy, on my phone right now but it is fairly easy to find. But discount tire screwed both me and my mom with our tpms systems

Which still cannot be done. I can't count how many times I've seen cars with 2 and more temp spares running 70mph down the highway.

AWWWW Why did you have to post this ??? Now the Feds will add a trunk inspection to the yearly inspections and jackup the inspection price by 75%. :D

But I do like the way you think !!!

I've seen regular rubber valve stems fail too.

Another way for tire shops to make money is to charge for TPMS rebuilds. I use Discount and just decline it just like I do road hazard.

    Nope.....Get used to it.

Think about how much money comes out of your paycheck to support certain programs of which you get NO return??

At least with TPMS, it works. :D

the batteries in mine died around 270,000kms and they were about 6 years old. the tire shop replaced them with regular stems, that was 2 years and 70,000kms ago. just got new tires and the shop didnt even mention anything about TPMS.

Let me get this straight-you are going to pay 800 +/- for a set of tires for your truck and your bitchin about 44 dollars for the TPMS which can actually save a tire (let alone you and your truck) when it IDs a flat before you would notice.
Yes, everything is bigger in TX, including assholes!

Difficult to make an accurate diagnosis. At first it seemed like the hippies were at fault. Then it was single mothers and old people. After that a popular fast food restaurant was implicated. Oh and the government is involved too. Not sure if I've got these in the right order but there is some sort of conspiracy taking place. BTW I've met some very nice people from Texas.

While we're at it, my airbags and seatbelts are fucking useless. Do I really need them? I'm going out to remove them right now. Be right back..
