What is the major difference between the sport package and the off road package on a tacoma, I want the long bed and the crew cab but it only comes in the sport. Is there a major difference?

Off road will have an e - locker and the sport has a mechanical? Lsd.

Not to knowledgeable on the 2nd Gen so I'm sure someone that knows more will chime in.

People get sport for the looks. Don't be ashamed, I got sport cause it looks way better! I doubt I'll need the locker for the type of off-roading I do...4x4 without the locker should suffice! If not, I'll install aftermarket sometime. But yea look @ the website for the breakdown of the differences.

What I was told was that the sport "locker" is basically the truck sensing one wheel spinning more than the other, so it applies the brakes to that wheel thereby forcing more power to the other wheel. I don't know if this is true or not, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The offroad has a true locker, where you push the button and even power is sent to both wheels.

Sports too. My 06 sport did. I think they changed between 07 and 09.

just like the SR5's. there is nothing majorly different between the sport and SR5, basically you get a hood scoop, color matched door handles/grille/rear bumper, and availability of long bed.

Larger alloy rims, better fabric, upgraded suspension, bed outlet, fog lights, and the stuff you listed isn't major? For what it cost I'd say it was.

Also you can get a LB on an SR5.

suspension upgrade is incorrect. there is a TSB to allow an SR5 to get all TRD bilstein shocks. who cares about fabric when buying a truck? i did forget about the bed outlet, but i think i can count on one hand how many times ive ever used it. alloy wheels are eh.. you can get them dirt cheap on this site all the time. ultimately for the price of the sport, no its not worth it to get it over an SR5. 9 times out of ten its not even worth the off road over the SR5 :notsure:

Eh I'd take the look of the sport alone over the SR5 any day. Personal preference I guess.

I noticed the off road tacoma I was looking at didn't have 4x4, it had a LRD? I think..... But my question is how in the hell can a truck with an "off road" package not have 4x4?:confused:

The sports do come with those cheapo yellow/blue bilstein shocks from what I've seen. My SR5 did not. Not sure if those are really much of an upgrade. The rest is just cosmetic differences. My SR5 came with some sweet texas edition wheels, so the earlier claim someone made that sports come with bigger/better rims wasn't completely accurate either.
