Thanks for putting in effort to help out folks.

Ideally you should be able to take your image and use the same software to create a new card and have it work. Obviously don't overwrite your existing card, but if you had an extra 16GB card you could try...

I don't unfortunately, only 32GB cards which introduces a variable.

Don't think the size would matter, as long as the the image is transferred to the new card. I mean the 16 GB card has over 3 GB free.... So what if it has 19 GB free???

It's either going to work or it isn't. Only issue I foresee is maybe there's something like a ECU update or something that is installed when they update the chip at the dealership that cross checks with the Nav update... Probably not, just thinking out loud. People probably wouldn't be selling them on eBay and such, if they just didn't work plug/play.

    **EDIT**
Waiting for upload link, and I'll give it a go.

In theory the card size shouldn't matter. Yet if it doesn't work, a different card size is one more variable.

I remember back in the very early days of computers, there was a game on the Apple II computers distributed on floppy disks. It had copy-protection, actually. One specific sector on the original disks was marked unreadable. The game checked that sector to ensure it was unreadable. So if folks just copied all the files, the game would be able to read the sector and know it had been copied. Anyone copying the disk sector by sector would get an error. Pretty clever for the era. (this was a before the iBM PC was released)

Unfortunately all I have is 8gb that came with my thinkware dashcam. And like you said, really don't want to try and format an original and try to write image back on. I might try and pull 64gb off of dashcam, and give it a go, but that won't happen till tomorrow.
Lastly the internet is a snail, I'm at mere 2gb, hopefully it'll be done before I leave for work

Edit not sure what happened, this morning the upload had restarted, the computer didn't sleep as it was set on never sleep, maybe it's the connection.
    I'm uploading it to hubic

    Data point:

On two different computers I've imaged my OE184 card and then written that image to my 32GB PNY microSD. I used the dd methodology on the Mac, and Win32DiskImager on windows, both following the suggestion on how to duplicate a Raspberry Pi card.

Both attempts failed, with the headunit reporting "Unable to read the map SD data. Check the man SD. If necessary, consult your dealer."

The OE184 card is a class-4 and the PNY card is U1, so there should be no issues with the card speed.

I believe the card itself has built in protection. Look what I found when I peeled the label.

Interesting, wonder if you could copy 184 contents to an 183 card, both of them being oe cards

I'm wondering if there's a software key on the card that has to match the hardware. I'd be willing to backup my card to an image and try the OE184 files.

Might need to copy only the map files in the updated map card, and leave the rest of the data intact to match DRM. I'm trying to find an adapter to look at the contents of my current card.

I believe those terminals are common to most/all cards. See this video at around 5 minutes: https://youtu.be/jjB6wliyE_Y?t=5m

Just checked mine is 184 on the card itself which is a microSD. Versioning on the Nav shows as pictured. I don't see a sticker or anything special about the card , it is a san disk, but does have "Toyota" painted on it

Hmmm. When I get a second I'll remove the entire label and try the card again.

Taking label off doesn't make any difference so it's got to be in the software.

Have a look at the actual instructions in the link you posted... They're for a different head unit. :D

With a bit more research, I'm now suspecting that the map data is in some way tied to the internal card ID which is unique to each card. Whether these are made with a known CID that the head unit checks or whether the individual CID's are then written to the card I have no idea. I'm probably not going to dig much further at this point, but here are a couple links for others to follow.

    CID info: http://www.cameramemoryspeed.com/sd-memory-card-faq/reading-sd-card-cid-serial-psn-internal-numbers/

Given a few of these devices, it'd be pretty easy to create tons of nav cards and store an encrypted record of the individual CID on each card in some manner. http://www.getusb.info/how-to-read-cid-on-sd-card/

Some folks working on changing a card's CID to match the source card's CID: http://www.gpspower.net/volkswagen-...amsung-evo-plus-micro-sd-run-copied-card.html

EDIT: it'd be interesting to compare md5 checksums for files/folders from different people's OE184 cards to see if/where any differences may be. I'll see what I can do from my end but it may be a couple days.

I'm looking forward to comparing my OE183 files to the OE184 to see the difference. Just waiting on a download link. :D

When the download link is available, I'll get it and compare what is on it to the card in mine (also 184). I would be curious to see if it matches or not. I think I have a 16GB card someplace I can load it onto.
