Definitely air down next time. If you’re going to be cruising around 30mph, I’d do 22ish psi.

You stack them and leave them, they're rocks. If you go down the same way they ease your way out. If a super studly rock crawler manly guy comes along he can step out of his vehicle and remove the rocks. They aren't cemented into place.

Oh yeah but that trail in and out with rubber burned on the rocks in those tire tracks it totally okay but god forbid you move some hand held rocks around.

I havent heard any issues or complaints about rock stacking before. If you dont want to use them then don't, take a harder line. However if we are destoying the environment to find rocks like clomping all over and destroying soil crust then thats another story

An obstacle is an obstacle. If I need assistance getting over it, I will put in the work. That work includes placing rocks, and then breaking them down for the next person to attempt the obstacle.

35's give you one more measly inch of ground clearance compared to 33's. One and a half more than 32's and we won WW-2 driving Jeeps with 32" tires on them. Farmers, loggers, and construction workers who actually use their trucks get by just fine with 32" tires. There is this thing called driving skill that some try to replace with equipment

    . 5d76b970e4c601461d0215a604cbe1bd--jeep-cj-jeep-jeep.jpg

If your goal is to get from point A to point B there are darn few places where a 32" tire and driving skills won't take you. That extra 1" to 1.5" of ground clearance comes at a huge expense and drivers have to seek out the hardest path in order to prove they can go somewhere others cannot.

Around 33" is the point where the negatives start to outweigh the positives. Not all, but most of the guys running 35" tires are doing it just for the "Look". It is easy to tell them apart. The guys with big tires on daily drivers are mostly for show. The guys running 35 or bigger tires who are serious pull their vehicles to the trailhead on trailers.

Doing it right involves a lot more than a lift and a regear. Tires that size done right involves highly modified vehicles with axles and other running gear out of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks under the frame.

I haven't seen anything that lowers ground clearance with a drop bracket. Same stock suspension geometry.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
I know exactly 1 person who trailers their vehicle with 35s. Most of the people that tow the vehicles to the trail are running tires on vehicles that are not street legal. Like crawlers with 44s min. I dont think 35s are just for show. I dont think 35s are just for the gram. Most people with Tacoma's dont do 35s, because of the amount of work required to fit them, correctly. I also dont think 35s are required for most of the off roading that people do. Same with a winch. Same with steel bumpers. A bunch of people think 35's overkill, and thats your opinion. But depending on the perspective, anything aftermarket added could be considered overkill.

Im going to 35s soon myself. I see no point in throwing aftermarket wheels on a truck unless you need them to fit larger tires. But plenty of people do it, and run "large" tires- looking at y'all with 265s and 285s (myself on small 255s).
People who dont want to cut as much, they run 295s. I would do this myself instead of 315s (which actually are 34.5s) , but cooper doesnt make the tire I want in 295/75/16. So, 315 it is. And my aftermarket wheels are sitting at the house, waiting for meats.

I’m a big practitioner of leave no trace while backpacking or hiking but not really sure how possible that is on an off road trail. Admittedly I’m not one to go out and hit the trails on the weekend. I have what I have because of where I live. That being said, the roads being utilized as an off-road trail certainly must have traces of people being there.

I think the rock stacking thing would be more “frowned on” so that your not changing the trails difficultly level, simply because you needed training wheels to get over that spot.

No other member. I am who I am.

I didn’t really see why 35s were absolutely needed based on my off road experience. I also go to holister SVRA twice a year. Obviously, I stay on the easy trails.

I’ve seen dozens of mall crawlers with 35s though. I guess maybe some of that criticism came out in my first post. My apologies, but that wasn’t my intention.

Last week I ended up in relatively remote part of the forest and I saw someone left 100s of empty shotgun shells and about 20 cardboard shotgun ammo boxes scattered all over this open space in the forest. There were also broken window panes, used ear plugs and plates everywhere. Looked to be about a few days old too. I don’t understand how people can be so disrespectful.

Being that I spent two nights in the National forest by myself two nights prior, it made me realize that the National forests are dangerous places and I need to have some heat next time i do solo camp trip. Who knows what kind of crazies are out there? I could of rolled up on those guys and got killed.

Don’t take this the wrong way but that’s a very uninformed and narrow view of tires and their use offroad.

The difference between a 33 and 35 is superficially 1” of ground clearance. However a 35 is often wider, taller sidewall, and larger circumference. Many types of tires are also not available in a 33. I initially went with 35s due to the disappointing tire selections in a 33. 35s and 33s depending on construction air down significantly different.

What’s getting lost here is that most people don’t offroad anything more than a stock truck can do so a 33 seems ideal for most. However a 35 will outperform a 33 in all offroad situations.

The reality is that a 35 can easily go anywhere a 33 can but it’s quite silly to blankety say or imply that a 33 can go anywhere a 35 can.

When it comes to driving offroad the limiting factor in 99% of situations is the equipment or vehicle not the driver.

I don’t need to trailer my truck and I’m regeared to 5.29s can drive almost all difficult trails and trails rated up to 8 in CO and Moab. Anymore and people are running buggies. There are quite a few of us that rock crawl our trucks and you won’t have much luck doing the trails we do on a 33.
