What's the point of that power socket in the back of TRD models if you can't use it?

Where is the inverter? How do you get to it? I have a 750 I would like to use if it will fit.[/quote]

I believe it is in the cab underneath the center console.

The inverter is located under the center console.

    I got beat... lol

Note if you do upgrade the inverter (it will take wiring), you'll probably want to run a higher grade wire to the bed plug as well. I'm not sure what it's rated at... but you don't want to be sorry and overload the wiring if it's only rated to 400w.

I believe it's just a few bolts... I haven't personally taken it apart so I can't really say. Check out the technical section... i believe there is a few inverter install guides that involve going in there on the cheap mods list. Some people add additional in-cab 110's as well (such as to the back, side of the console on the passenger side, ect)

It's something I'll probably do one day myself... it's just low on the list lol.

I know this thread is a little old.

My concern with updating the inverter to more amperage is the alternator. If you have a towing package you have a 130 A alternator. That's 130 A @ 12 volts or 1560 Watts - minus whatever it takes to run your ignition and other electronics while the engine is running. You don't get something for nothing and there is always power loss when running anything through a transformer like in an inverter. A 1000 Watt load @ 120V AC requires about 150 Amps of 12 Volt power. Much more than your alternator can generate, let alone run anything else like lights, engine ignition, blower fan, etc. It will pull amperage from the battery and it will drain fast.

The 400 Watt inverter was designed to match the alternator and not drain the battery. If you do the 400 Watt always on modification you could drain the battery even while driving if you have high amperage device drawing close to full power. The alternator can't supply that much amperage and run all the vehicles other electronics at the same time.

so you're saying install a bigger alternator first, and then put in a bigger inverter... sounds like fun.

I'm just saying that you'll need an alternator with more amps before you install a larger inverter. I haven't even mentioned that you'll have to modify the 100/400 Watt switch also. Of course you can switch out for a larger inverter without an alternator BUT be aware that you will drain your battery.
